DESCRIPTION

UCSD Department of Radiology is one of the most innovative and productive academic departments in the country, offering challenging career opportunities in the diverse areas of advanced educational programs, cutting-edge research, and state-of-the-art services for clinical and translational studies.

Working under direct supervision, incumbent performs routine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures for diagnostic purposes in accordance with established guidelines and MRI protocols. Requires advanced knowledge of radiologic technology and magnetic resonance imaging. Acts as an MRI subject matter expert and assists other technicians as needed. Demonstrates and applies knowledge of principles of MRI safety.

Prepares and positions patient for procedure by using established MRI protocols to achieve the highest quality image. Follows protocols specified by the Radiologist. Administers contrast media per protocol. Educates patient, collects patient history, communicates patient information to the Radiologist, and prepares patient for procedure. Enters complex data into the computer system. Reviews, verifies, and evaluates images to ensure technical quality and image quality. Troubleshoots and resolves MRI-related PACS issues.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of a school of Radiologic Technology or MRI Technology program.

  • Current national licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.).or American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT)

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Venipuncture certification within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Thorough understanding of various radiological systems to include PACS and RIS

  • Experience to perform Magnetic Resonance scanning techniques to render diagnostic images. Knowledge of Magnetic Resonance physical principles, concepts and MRI safety procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to obtain maximum diagnostic information, recognizing equipment and scanning limitations.

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and related positioning for accurate imaging. Demonstrated ability to recognize structures that are visualized and anatomic relationships, normal and pathological. Experience to assess technical and diagnostic acceptability of images prior to record.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Control related to image quality.

  • Demonstrated skill to check calibration status of MRI equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess technical and diagnostic acceptability of images prior to record.

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to pay attention to details.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and accurately and maintain confidentiality in all matters.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) months of recent relevant experience

  • One to two years of experience in MRI.

  • Knowledge of UCSD Quality Service Standards and Institutional Review Board policies.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $149,522 - $149,522 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $71.61 - $71.61

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
