        | Primary Purpose of Department | The Department consists of fourteen tenure-track faculty members and four full-time lecturers. The B.A. (approximately 700 majors and 100 minors) and M.S. (30 graduate students) degrees are offered in Criminal Justice & Criminology and the Department contributes to the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Public Policy and the School of Data Science.

          Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
 Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of their academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member's discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.

        | Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology invites applications for an Assistant Professor position beginning August 15, 2026. A Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. Other requirements include: (1) demonstrates potential for high quality research productivity, (2) experience or interest in grantsmanship, and (3) experience or interest in teaching courses related to the department's concentration in crime analytics, which can include the application of quantitative/qualitative research methods, data/crime analytics, and/or technology (e.g., data visualization, geographic information systems, crime analysis). |   
        | Minimum Experience/Education | UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. |   
        | Preferred Education, Skills and Experience | Strong candidates will have a methodological skill set that will broaden the department's existing strengths, either quantitatively or qualitatively.
