Description

Nexus-Woodbourne is seeking a Vocational Program Assistant that supports instructors in delivering hands-on vocational training by ensuring safe equipment use, maintaining tools and inventory, and supervising students. This role promotes a positive, respectful learning environment, provides behavioral guidance, and ensures student safety across classroom, campus, and residential settings. Strong communication, professionalism, and a commitment to youth development are essential.

Pay Range $22 - $24 per hour!

Primary responsibilities:

Program & Student Supervision

  • Demonstrates safe and effective use of vocational program tools and equipment while assisting the teacher with instruction.
  • Monitors the vocational classroom environment and protocols to ensure students are safely operating equipment.
  • Provides supervision to ensure that all students are wearing proper safety equipment.
  • Assists with cataloging, tracking, and auditing all tools and equipment after purchase and after use.
  • Assists the teacher and supervisor with recommendations for potential equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Understands how to use vocational equipment as needed per the curriculum.
  • Guides and monitors students who are learning to use equipment; interacts and effectively communicates with students and faculty with poise, professionalism, respect and empathy.
  • Provides client supervision and mentorship while striving to understand child and adolescent development principles with intent to model and reinforce core fundamentals of youth development.
  • Redirects student behavior as issues arises and assist with restraints when necessary while using sound judgement and remaining calm in the event of an emergency or crisis situation.
  • Assists in monitoring and transporting students before and after school from the residential units.
  • Demonstrates an acceptance and respectfulness toward diversity concerning commonalities and differences such as gender, race, age, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, disability, and gender identity.

Student Safety

  • Serves as mentor and role model by demonstrating compassion and understanding for feelings, opinions, and experiences of others, and communicating and interacting in a manner that is honest, positive, respectful, and professional.
  • Ensures student resident safety and collaborates with co-workers to maintain an environment that is positive, respectful, clean, and safe for student social and emotional development and growth.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures involving living classroom and school area, building, campus grounds and residential areas when assigned or when attending off-campus activities.
  • Performs First Aid/CPR procedures and responds according to established protocols in the event of an emergency situation

Nexus & Program Policy & Procedure

  • Maintains appropriate boundaries in all interactions and contact with students' residents.
  • Complies with Nexus policies involving privacy and confidentiality for student residents and their families; maintains working knowledge and application of all Nexus policies and procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required by Nexus. Understands and supports the Nexus philosophy and treatment modalities.
Requirements

Required Education and Licensure:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements
  • Minimum of 21 years of age

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 1+ year of related experience
