Job Description:

This Sr Labor Strategy Consultant provides strategic analysis and planning for contract negotiations. Develops hypotheses for critical and complex issues involving labor contracts, economics, industry landscape, and Southwest's labor strategy. Serves as a subject matter expert to negotiating committees on contractual comparisons and competitive opportunities. May also serve as a part of the Negotiation Team and perform other duties as directed.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate results of analysis performed
  • Perform analysis related to industry and competitive research, labor contract benchmarking, and contract and compensation comparisons
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of industry trends and practices of competitors; track the changing landscape of other airline labor contracts
  • Create analytical illustrations and cogent insights needed to present analytical findings
  • Collaborate to ensure alignment with colleagues within the Team and from other Company departments
  • Develop and deliver structured presentations that inform and influence audiences using insights and illustrations derived from analysis
  • Construct and manage complex analytical models
  • Contribute to educating Executive Leadership on the labor cost impact of the SWA business model and competitive advantages and disadvantages of SWA labor contracts vs. industry
  • Engage with negotiating Teams and attend negotiations in the role of a subject matter expert as needed
  • Create analytical illustrations and insights in support of Labor communications
  • Interpret Union contracts as they relate to payroll, leaves of absence, bid processes, and other work rules
  • Act as a Labor Relations subject matter expert and provide executive presentations and explanations on complex issues and projects
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the business and management principles involved in strategic planning
  • Knowledge of economic, financial, basic accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Must demonstrate strong quantitative skills
  • Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing, and assimilating data including turning raw data into meaningful information
  • Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and advise on recommended solutions
  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Ability to brainstorm approaches to solving complex issues
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
  • Ability to contribute positively to a Team environment that promotes sharing, collaboration, and accountability
  • Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment
  • Ability to present findings and defend analysis with department Leadership and with Unions at the negotiating table
  • Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelors Degree
Experience
  • Expert-level experience, expansive and far-reaching knowledge in:
    • Economic and financial analysis
    • Work or academic experience in business, finance, or strategy

Preferred:

  • Advanced Excel (creating complex excel models) and PowerPoint,.
  • Storytelling capabilities, especially to cross-functional professionals (people with different backgrounds).
  • Experience gaining buy-in and self-starters.
  • Business or Finance Consulting background.
  • Comfort with abstract assignments, ability to problem-solve and data usage.

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations related to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive information

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $134,750 per year to $149,700 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
