Position Highlights

The Sr. Coordinator, Tutor Curricular is part of a team of professional staff members responsible for facilitating all aspects of THINK TANK's peer-to-peer and instructor-led tutoring programs including the recruitment, training, mentoring, and supervision of 70-90 Student Workers. This position is designed to provide enhanced subject matter and methods expertise to the program and tutors In addition to the shared supervisory and logistical duties. The position's primary responsibilities include meeting regularly with faculty from various academic departments, gathering course syllabi and curricular updates, and integrating their insights from these sources into programmatic training materials and informed decision making.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Tutoring Manager in the development and implementation of a comprehensive tutoring program.
  • Contribute to the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of tutors and Graduate Assistants.
  • Serve as a technical and methodological resource for tutors addressing specialized student needs.
  • Ensure tutor participation and progress in the CRLA International Tutor Training Program Certification and other required departmental training.
  • Contribute to approval of tutors and Graduate Assistant payroll and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain tutor scheduling and assignment records.
  • Oversee daily check-in and check-out procedures and ensure compliance with established guidelines.
  • Communicate workplace information, policies, and procedures clearly and consistently to tutors.
  • Provide guidance in problem-solving and interpretation of departmental procedures and policies.
  • Collect, document, and analyze tutoring usage and performance data.
  • Collaborate with staff across THINK TANK to support departmental operations.
  • Participate in departmental activities, committees, and special assignments in support of unit.
  • Serve as a primary liaison to faculty partners for curricular and content-related updates.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of special programs, as assigned.
  • Recommend improvements to tutoring programs, services, and training initiatives based on curricular developments.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with THINK TANK staff, departmental colleagues, and other campus partners.
  • Provide subject matter support to tutors and, when appropriate, deliver direct tutoring within areas of expertise.
  • Design, organize, and evaluate tutor training sessions in collaboration with the Tutoring Manager, other Tutor Program Coordinators, and Graduate Assistants.
  • Facilitate and lead training sessions as assigned.
  • Manage, update, and maintain tutoring resources for staff use.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of STEM content areas, including mathematics, physical and/or life sciences, social sciences.
  • Knowledge of tutoring program coordination practices and strategies.
  • Knowledge of leadership, management, and supervision principles and practices.
  • Excellent oral, written, and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and high degree of openness to new approaches and new ideas.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and ethical principles in working with student employees and students.
  • Ability to establish a supportive relationship with students.
  • Knowledge of CRLA International Tutor Training Program Certification.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a STEM field or in Math education, Science education, or other appropriate field.
  • Experience supporting students in STEM subjects.
  • Experience working in a tutoring or academic support program.
  • Familiarity with University of Arizona student-worker hiring procedures and policies.
  • Interest in implementing and facilitating an academic success program.
  • Commitment to making student-centered academic support strategies.
  • Experience supervising student workers.
