Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring an H&H Modeling Team Leaderto join our dynamic Water Utilities Teamat our Houston office.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located. This position reports to the Engineering Services Leaderand is responsible formanaging a team of technical staff in multiple officesandincludespromoting the growth of the team and individual team

What You Will Do:

TheH&H ModelingTeam Leader is a strong communicator (written/oral) and collaborator capable of leading technical staff and working with project management staff.TeamProjects include, but are not limited to,watershed flood studies,urban drainagestudies,site drainage design,and contribution todesignplansets. A wide range ofmodeling and designsoftware and processes will be used within the team to efficientlyidentifyand exceed client needs and expectations. The Team Leader must have managerial and technical problem-solving skills to meet the team's challenges.

TheUtilities H&H ModelingTeam Leaderis responsible foreffective planning and scheduling of key resources onwatershed studies andstormwaterdesignprojects. Theyare responsible formanaging a team of technical staff in multiple officesandincludespromoting the growth of the team and individual team members. Reporting staff includestaskmanagers, engineers, EITs, data analysts and quality control specialists. TheUtilities H&H ModelingTeam Leaderperforms goal setting for the team, conducts performance reviews, performs personnel changes, and interviews and hires technical team members whenappropriate.



  • Establishes employee performance goals, provides regularfeedbackand works with assigned technical team members to achieve individual goals.


  • Directand delegatetechnical tasks associated with H&Hmodeling projects.


  • Providequality control of H&H deliverables


  • Effectively resolves conflict within the team byinitiatingand facilitating communication.


  • Mentors andcoachestheir direct reports.


  • Coordinate with Project Managers/Project Leads to ensure team resource planning and individual workloads are balanced.


  • Runs regularly scheduled team meetings andcommunicatesduring which corporate initiatives/news are presented.


  • Communicates issues affecting technical task work quality, project schedule, or budget and escalates unresolved issues to a higher level as needed.


  • Posts job requisitions, interviews, andhirestechnical team members.
  • Works closely withUtilitiesMarket personnel to develop fee estimates for bids and proposals, including associate staffing projections, productionestimationand detailed pricing calculations within Microsoft Excel.


What You Will Bring:



  • A minimum of10+yearsprofessional experiencerequired.


  • Experiencein personnel management


  • Strong preference for candidates tolocatedinHoustonarea with ability to regularly visitoffice forface-timewith team members.


  • Provide technicalexpertiseinhydrology/hydraulics and stormwater management.


  • Demonstratedproficiencywith H&H modeling softwareincluding, but not limited to,HEC-HMS,HEC-RAS, ICM, PC-SWMM, XP-SWMM.


  • Experience withwater/wastewatermodeling or design is preferred.


  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for, organize, and manage project tasks.Experience with delegating work, writing proposals, or project budgetingarepreferred.


  • Desire for personal leadership development.


  • An ability to analyze, assess, and prioritize multiple requests from market and technical staff and efficiently assign and manage high quality project work.


  • Detail oriented, with a focus on quality control and data management.


  • Must be familiar with typicalmodeling anddesign project workflow


  • Mustpossessstrong organizational skills to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities.


  • Must be comfortable takinginitiativeto interact with others and resolve conflicts.


  • Must write clearly, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office (Excel,Wordand Access)
  • Experience with Civil 3Dand development of designplansetsispreferred

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
