Job Summary

Job Summary: Join Dorman's Proving Grounds as an Intern, where innovation meets hands-on experience in the automotive industry. This role involves collaborating closely with skilled technicians to install, test, and diagnose pre-production automotive parts, supporting product development initiatives. Located in Colmar, PA, this on-site internship offers a focused 10-12 week experience starting in late May 2026, providing an immersive opportunity to develop practical skills in vehicle try-ons, data collection through rigorous on-vehicle testing, and quality verification processes. This internship is designed for students eager to deepen their technical expertise while contributing to cutting-edge product validation efforts within a dynamic and supportive team environment.

Primary Duties
Primary Duties:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management and engineering to conduct thorough testing and validation of pre-production automotive components, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Assist in the installation and diagnostic evaluation of new products on a variety of vehicle models, applying mechanical aptitude and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of testing procedures, observations, and outcomes to support data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present detailed overviews of testing results to engineering and development teams, facilitating transparent communication and feedback loops.
  • Contribute to the creation of instructional materials such as manuals and training videos that facilitate product understanding and customer education.
  • Participate in additional assignments aimed at expanding technical skills, automotive knowledge, and professional growth within the organization.
  • Engage proactively in team meetings and project discussions, demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities to enhance product development processes.

This role demands a proactive mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to a hands-on, fast-paced learning environment, emphasizing both individual initiative and collaborative engagement.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Technical Aptitude: Preferred ASE certifications or equivalent knowledge in automotive systems, with a strong interest in auto parts and diagnostics.
  • Diagnostic Skills: Familiarity with automotive diagnostic scan tools and proficiency in using power and shop tools to efficiently perform installations and troubleshooting.
  • Software Proficiency: Competence with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting purposes, along with experience navigating online automotive repair resources such as AllData and Mitchell OnDemand.

Education / Experience
  • Currently enrolled as an active student in a 2-year or 4-year college program, preferably in automotive technology or a related field, with plans to graduate in 2026 or 2027.
  • This position is designed as an internship, offering practical learning experiences tailored to students.
  • Experience ranging from 0 to 2 years in an automotive shop environment or through related internships is advantageous but not mandatory.
