| Description
 
 The Principal Laboratory Mechanician will work under the directionof the laboratory and office managers and will be responsible for the overall
 maintenance and repair of laboratory and office equipment. This role involves
 mechanical work including the design, fabrication, assembly, modification,
 maintenance, and repair of specialized equipment and precision instruments of
 various types. Duties include, but are not limited to, servicing incubators,
 biosafety hoods, fax machines, copiers, autoclave ovens, distilled water
 machines, centrifuges, vacuum pumps, and electric pipet aids.
 Additional responsibilities include: 
   
 Conductingregular inventory of all lab equipment and scheduling routine preventative
 maintenance.
Maintainingdetailed reports of maintenance activities.
Keepingrecords of all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Fire Department
 inspections.
Performingdaily inventory checks of laboratory supplies such as pipettes, flasks,
 filters, and waste bins, and ordering replacements as needed.
Assistingthe laboratory manager with daily disposal of biohazard waste in
 compliance with health and safety regulations.
Storingincoming lab shipments appropriately, including temperature-sensitive
 items.
Receivingand verifying laboratory and office orders for accuracy.
Stockingand distributing supplies for both laboratory and administrative offices.
Handlingmail pickup and delivery between Santa Monica and various UCLA campus
 locations.
Screeningand directing incoming calls via the laboratory's main phone lines.
Preparingorder forms for office and laboratory needs.
Checkingdeliveries against packing slips and purchase orders to confirm receipt of
 all items and following up on back orders or discrepancies.
Maintainingoffice files and databases.
 This is a part-time, limited, 12-month position that may convert tocareer.
 Hourly Pay Range: $40.15 - $48.41 Qualifications
 
 
 Required:  
   High School DiplomaSkill and knowledge ofvarious laboratory equipment eg: CO2 incubators, Z1machine, biosafety cabinet, -80
 etc. Capable of repairing it.
Construction knowledgeto be able to properly mount and install equipment in compliance w/ safety
 regulation.
Ability in maintainingproper usage of laboratory equipment.
Knowledge ofBiohazardous materials and their disposal methods.
Organizational skills tostock laboratory and office supplies to perform inventory.
Knowledge of theordering system to call in orders to vendors and reconciling shipments and
 PO's.
Supervisor/teach labtechnicians and lab assistants how to properly use lab equipment, such as sterilizing
 the incubators before usage, change CO2 cylinders when low, use the CO2 gas
 measurement machine.
Able to quickly learnhow to use and adapt to new lab equipment.
Acquired necessary UCLAEH&S safety training: biohazardous waste, BSL2+, Biological Safety Cabinet,
 etc.
