Job Description

IEM is looking for a Full Time- Geospatial Analyst to join our IEM GEO division to service our multiple projects across the United States and its territories.


Primary Location:



  • Live anywhere that meets personal office/ at-home work requirements in the United States including Puerto Rico.
  • Work from a personal office/ at home location.


Travel Requirements:



  • This position may require occasional travel based on the client's needs and the projects assigned.


Essential Functions:



  • Meets with customers to analyze business and operational processes; develops clearly articulated business and functional requirements and creates design for GIS technology solutions.
  • Develops specifications; defines data requirements, data sources and design logic; leads and participates in research and evaluation of alternative methods and approaches.
  • Planning, development, and implementation of highly complex GIS maps and applications.
  • Knowledge in Esri GIS applications such as ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder, ArcGIS Hub and Survey123.
  • Able to develop, implement, and maintain highly complex GIS projects by using technical and project management skills.
  • Establishes standards and quality control for data entry procedures.
  • Coordinates data acquisition and exchanges, project scheduling, and software training with internal and outside agencies.
  • Manages the preparation of reports detailing the results of these experiments or model outputs.
  • Organizes and categorizes GIS information.
  • Geodatabase version and replica management.
  • Design, create and maintain geographic data files, including geographic data models, polygons, lines, and points.
  • Convert data between various spatial formats and projections and loads data into spatial databases and geographic data models.
  • Design, create, and maintain logical data structures and spatial data models including topology, dynamic segmentation, geometric networks, and address models.
  • Process, source code, descriptions, and support requirements.
  • Make recommendations regarding upgrades, considering implications of new or revised GIS software, equipment, or applications.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, Urban Planning, Geomatics Engineering, Information Systems or related field.
  • Experience: Three (3) years' experience performing geospatial analytical work with GIS and related tools and solutions.
  • Two (2) years' of progressively responsible professional technical experience related to GIS and related solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of various GIS software- primarily HAZUS and ESRI ArcGIS- including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, QGIS, Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, Model Builder, and other related mapping software.
  • Experience with various geographic data formats and standard data conversion and transformation methods.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, comfortable working in a client-facing role.
  • Formal cartographic training and a strong understanding of GIS fundamentals.
  • In-depth knowledge of data structures, data analyses, data manipulation, data management techniques, and data-base design, development and maintenance.
  • Ability to create, analyze, and interpret large geospatial datasets and maps.
  • Experience creating maps (using large-format plotters), reports, and presentations in support of various GIS and technology projects.
  • Attention to detail and strong aptitude in the area of data quality control.
  • Ability to provide remote support to clients and internal IEM stakeholders, and ability to travel and deploy to client sites, as required.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in geography, earth sciences, computer science, information technology, or a closely related field with an emphasis in GIS.
  • Certifications with AWS, ESRI technical certifications, GISP, and related certifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of FEMA's Risk Map program or other flood-related data analytical work, including floodplain mapping.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) principles, survey and mapping GSP systems, aerial photographic interpretation, databased development and management.
  • Familiarity with ArcHydro, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, and HAZUS.
  • Basic programming and scripting in HTML5, Python, XML, JavaScript, SQL.
  • Experience developing GIS and related geospatial tools to be used in benefit cost analyses.
