Overview:

Veeco has an opening in Plainview, NY, for aSenior Manager,ETO (Engineer-To-Order). This roleleads across-functionalteamof engineersin the design and development ofcomplex wafer processing equipment involving ion beam etch, ion beam deposition, and chemical/physical vapor deposition technologies.TheSenior Manager,ETO,isresponsible for leadingateam comprised ofinternalcross-disciplinegroups,as well asexternalcontractedresources,involvedin designprojects that have near-term revenue impact.Thisperson in thisrolewillhavehands-on involvementin Engineeringdesignactivitiesand willtouch all phases of the process,fromestablishingdesign requirements fromcustomer specifications,throughdevelopment of the product,and tosuccessfulmanufacturing supportand customer acceptance.This is a highly visible leadership position, responsibleformultiple, concurrent development programswhose deliverables are expected tomeet schedule andquality standards.This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills,and willcoordinatewithothercross-functional groups, includingOperations,Marketing,Technology, TechnicalProductSupportand SupplyChain.

Responsibilities:



  • Manage and leadmechanical,electrical, and program management resources, as well as matrix-managedsoftware resources,with full ownership and responsibilityto execute new tool and upgrade ETO projectsthrough all phases of theproduct lifecycle, including concept, prototyping, development, qualification, productionsupport, andfieldsupport.


  • Coordinate the completion of milestones for critical product development programs while making effective use of internal and outsourced resources, applying a value-added philosophy toward maintaining the best use of the core competencies of the internal team and protecting Veeco Intellectual Property.


  • Participate in customerrequirements andspecification reviews witha cross-functional group,includingMarketingandOperations,prior to quote delivery.


  • Upon purchase order acceptance, work closely with Marketing and Operations totranslate customerprocessrequirements into systemconfigurationsanddesign requirements.


  • Plan,schedule, and resourceengineeringactivities in coordination with theOperationsbuild schedule and committed delivery dates.


  • ProvideEngineering support to Operations during themanufacturingbuild process.


  • Drive all engineering documentation and deliverables, including product BOM's, P&IDs,and engineering drawings,to be prepared, updated,and releasedin accordance withapplicable company format and procedural requirements.


  • Provide technical support for escalations on released and ETO products when additional support is requested by Field Service or Operations personnel.


  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry safety and regulatory standards.


  • Manage internally and externally sourced engineering changes(ECs)that are compliant with the Veeco change process and in support of program schedule requirements.


  • Resolve obsolescence issuesin a timely manner.


  • Establish goals and performance metrics to improve work product quality and efficiency;establishtraining and developmentplans for direct reportsand supportestablishment of the same for indirect reports;help the team achieve their career goals and drive the team to a higher level of performance.


  • Identifyand implement process improvements within the teamand acrossfunctional interfaces.


  • Act as a mentor to individual team members, and to the team, providing guidance in relevant areas, including technical, project management, product development, core team building and skills development.


  • Inspire the team to strive for continuous improvement in innovation, design, and development.


  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10%, including internationally.



Qualifications:

Bachelor's orMaster's degree in mechanical engineering is required.A minimum of 10 yearsof experience withengineering design and development andexperience insemiconductorequipment orother capitalequipment is preferred.A minimum of 5 years in an engineering leadership positionperformingnew product development is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:




  • Ability to leadamulti-disciplinaryengineeringteam in thedesign of complex technical equipment withateamcomprisedof direct employees, consultants, andtemps.


  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects, priorities, and risks within specified time and budgetary restrictions


  • Ability to estimate, plan, schedule, and allocate resources for engineering activities


  • Strong working knowledge and application of mechanical engineering principles.


  • Possess a system-level understanding of electro-mechanical systems, including a working knowledge of electrical and software principles.


  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, system block diagrams, electrical schematics, engineering specifications, and manufacturing requirements is required.


  • In-depth understanding of the product life cycle (PLC) and phase gate review process.


  • Knowledge of semiconductor or other capital equipment industries preferred; experience in designing equipment used in a cleanroom environment a plus; experience working within an ISO-certified organization is preferred.


  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage the details required to ensure all aspects of the engineering design process are met.


  • Proficiencywith SolidWorks and AutoCAD.


  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems; SAP is a plus.


  • Experience working directly with customers, external suppliers, and outsource partners.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.


  • Strong computer skills,including MS Office products,Teams,Project,andSharePoint.


  • Proven track record building, mentoring, and inspiring a team.


  • Must possess a strong sense of cultural values in accordance with the Veeco Code of Conduct.

Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $159,000-200,000, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
