Job Summary


The Wraparound Project (WAP), a Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program(HVIP) that serves high-risk victims of violent injury, is seeking a ViolencePrevention Professional (VPP) with in-depth knowledge in addressing root causesand risk factors of violence, including the social drivers of health.

The Violence Prevention Professionals (VPPs) at the San Francisco WraparoundProject are part of the fabric of Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital andare integral to the team of health care workers who care for victims ofviolence. As "credible messengers" the VPPs see people in the hospital, shortlyafter they have been injured, to begin a lasting partnership with the patienton a journey to change their life course. The goal of Wraparound is not only toreduce the risk of reinjury but it is to set people on a path to thrive. Thishappens over the months beyond the injury by strong VPP mentorship, and linkingtheir clients to mental health services, employment, housing, education, andother risk reduction resources provided by our strong partnerships in SanFrancisco and beyond. The VPPs have the opportunity to not only interface withhospital personnel but should also have strong interpersonal skills to workwith policymakers, national leaders in violence prevention and intervention,local partners, and personnel at other HVIPs in the region.

The Violence Prevention Professional is an integral part of the communityin San Francisco and will be involved with at risk communities and participatein community outreach events promoting violence prevention. These events mayinvolve evening or weekend events, outside the traditional work hours.

WAP serves the city of San Francisco and its clients represent vulnerableand occasionally disenfranchised communities. The VPP will have an understandingof the unique needs of this population in areas of legal aid, housing,immigration, etc. VPPs are well versedand connected to specific resources and programs across San Francisco.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $29.79 - $38.74 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The mission of the UCSF Department of Surgery is threefold: to develop the next generation of leaders in surgery; to provide outstanding quality clinical care that is cost effective, yet compassionate; and to make significant advances in scientific knowledge and clinical practice through basic and clinical research. The Department is comprised of multiple divisions and sections and our surgeons provide care at locations throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Our Residents and Fellows also play a critical role in Department's success. The Department of Surgery Chair's Office is an extremely high profile, fast paced environment with a very diverse range of contacts and needs which require an immediate and accurate response, handled with confidentiality, and while staying compliant. The Chair's Office is responsible for management, direction and oversight of over 400 faculty (clinical and research), trainees and staff personnel.

Required Qualifications


  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in social work from a program approved by the Council on Social Work Education, or a bachelor's degree in a related field, and one year of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Must have 5+ years of experience working with community-based organizations in San Francisco.
  • Most desirable to have 5+ years of experience working in the realm of violence intervention, conflict resolution, conflict de-escalation and re-entry work.
  • Personal connection to San Francisco community, (e.g., raised in San Francisco, lived in San Francisco for an extended period of time) or previous work with underserved communities (in San Francisco or elsewhere).
  • Can serve as a "credible messenger" based upon personal lived experience.
  • Have experience in workforce development, especially with individuals with nontraditional backgrounds (for example, no prior work experience or with complex legal issues / records).
  • Have experience advocating for vulnerable communities on an individual, local and state level.
  • Have experience and/or training in Trauma Informed Care.
  • Certifications and education in the field of Community Health Worker is strongly encouraged
  • Education and experience in community-level case management with an at-risk population
