About the Job

Position Summary

Boynton Health is seeking a strong, accomplished clinical medical leader to serve as the Senior Director of Clinical Services. This leader will champion student and patient-centered responsive health care through a team based approach. This position will provide strategic direction and oversight for clinical services and collaborate with other leaders to foster, promote, and engage in health and wellness activities at Boynton and across the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. The Senior Director of Clinical Services will leverage the clinic's strengths and demonstrate a commitment to innovation & effectiveness. Boynton Health is looking for clinical leadership that focuses on the current and future state of health services that meets the needs all students.

Overview of Responsibilities

Clinical Authority and Leadership (35%)

  • Lead strategic initiatives, anchoring our values in the development of comprehensive care models for our diverse student body. Ensure our integrated services meet population health principles and benefit the campus community. Ensure clinical quality, infection control, and regulatory compliance. Maintain Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and oversee visit targets for service lines.
  • Liaise with University of Minnesota Campus Public Health Officer, Office of Academic Clinical Affairs, and Office for Student Affairs department. Provide oversight and adherence to regulations of the University of Minnesota and governmental agencies and the highest professional and ethical standards.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, develop short and long-range planning to meet Boynton Health's strategic priorities. Develop and implement interventions to enhance campus health, particularly targeting underserved students, through partnerships with campus leaders and student groups.
  • Directly supervise clinical service line directors (e.g., primary care, gynecology, gender care, optometry, dental, physical therapy, nutrition, and infection prevention).
  • Provide clinical consultation and partnership with other clinic areas (e.g., nursing, x-ray, lab, mental health, and psychiatry).
  • Participate in recruiting and hiring decisions for clinical practitioners. Establish qualification and competencies required for clinical practitioners.
  • Provide clinical expertise in public health developments & emergencies, infectious diseases, and student medical crises.
  • Establish, modify, and approve clinical policies and procedures, serving as the authority for all clinical protocols, and serve in Boynton's Incident Command Structure during emergencies.

Direct Patient Care in Urgent and Primary Care (35%)

The scope of practice for the Physician may include, but is not limited to the following for which privileges are granted annually according to state law. For example: taking patient histories; performing physical examinations; interpreting and evaluating patient data; ordering or performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures (i.e., biopsy, minor surgery, wound care); prescribing, administering, and dispensing prescription and nonprescription medications and medical devices; diagnosing and treating illnesses, infectious diseases, minor trauma, and chronic conditions or diseases; issuing patient referrals to other providers within and outside of Boynton Health; providing contraceptive services, including emergency contraception; educating patients on health promotion, disease prevention, current treatments, importance of compliance, and answering questions; follow-up and review of test results with patients; consulting with other physicians and/or health care professionals; assisting in mentoring and supervising the clinical work clinic providers.

Executive & Administrative Leadership (20%)

  • Lead clinical services, craft culturally responsive care models tailored to the University of Minnesota student population.
  • Provide medical expertise on general health services, campus-wide programs, and policies affecting the campus population.
  • Participate in campus-wide emergency preparedness efforts, including infectious disease, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
  • Set visit, revenue, and expense targets for clinical service lines in collaboration with the Director of Operations and Finance Director.
  • Represent Boynton Health at meetings and relevant regional and national organizations in college health.
  • Oversee continuity of care and referral relationships with local hospitals.
  • Participate in Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) meetings and respond to concerns, as needed.

Provider and Staff Supervision (10%)

  • Supervise providers, leaders, and staff. Adhere to the University of Minnesota's Performance Management philosophy and practice.
  • Define qualifications and performance expectations for all supervisees. Provide direction and oversight of the annual work plan, track performance, and metrics. Ensure contingency plans are monitored to address any potential risk areas.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to foster employee engagement, clinical and professional development & leadership.
  • Adhere to and uphold fair and equitable practices in accordance with University and Boynton policies, labor agreements, and laws.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • M.D. / D.O. degree. Licensure by the state of Minnesota to practice medicine.
  • ABMS board certification. Board certified in your specialty.
  • DEA certification.
  • Five (5) years of senior management/leadership and supervisory experience in a group practice/outpatient primary care setting, community health clinic setting, and/or college student health care. Proficient in healthcare operations, change management, and financial aspects.
  • Demonstrated experience in building, nurturing and leading high performing clinical teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to handle difficult conversations and deliver clear objectives.
  • Proficiency in healthcare operations, financial aspects and personnel.
  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance.
  • Proven commitment to serving all patients and an understanding of how health and social economic determinants of health affect the campus communities served by Boynton.

Pay Range: Annual Base Salary $285K - $295K

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
