Job Summary

The Underwriting Operations Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the underwriting and agency support services and executes the strategic vision and direction of the assigned team. The role manages talent, supports workflow processes and tools, analytics and system resources that support Underwriting Operations. The role leads a group of employees, maintains an understanding of workflow processes and serves as a technical liaison to both internal and external partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Executes the strategic direction and operational success of the assigned unit, oversees the consistent delivery of efficient and reliable services.
  • Manages processing of new business applications, endorsements, and renewals for multiple lines of insurance.
  • Oversees MVR maintenance, certified policies, filings, and policy assembly. Delivers educational tools, resources, and compliance programs to their respective services departments.
  • Supports leadership with programs, business planning, processes, guidelines, budget, and databases, accountable for team expenditures.
  • Analyzes data to identify and report performance, trends, and opportunities. Tracks service metrics and reports on timeliness, quality, and volume of work assigned to the team.
  • Generates timely reports and communicates results to leadership and stakeholders, analytical integrity and accuracy.
  • May implement new agency contracts, and manage relationships between the agency, Company and Operations and ensures excellent Agency customer service.
  • Collaborates with internal and external business partners to ensure excellence and maintain strong relationships with leadership, staff, and vendors.
  • Manages priorities and drives performance through planning, execution, process improvement and best practice sharing.
  • Owns accountability for talent management and navigation of employee related issues that impact morale and work environment to ensure a high performing team including hiring and selection, succession planning, performance and compensation management, and employee development and career coaching as required. Manages priorities and workload distribution and removes barriers that impede progress
  • Seeks opportunities to improve operations, including internal and external customer experience, employee satisfaction, and corporate performance.
  • Participates in professional industry groups and stays abreast of industry changes, advancements, and jurisdictional issues to communicate, develop, and incorporate best practices in Underwriting Operations.
  • Shares knowledge of agency technology, coverage issues, market trends, best practices, and processes.
  • Identifies training gaps and collaborate with others to address training needs.
  • Leverages data to monitor team and individual productivity and quality.
  • Completes Quality Assessments for direct reports.

Job Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in underwriting or applicable insurance industry experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and/or commensurate experience.
