Compass Oncology, the largest private practice cancer care center in the Pacific Northwest, is looking to add an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Palliative Care department at the Rose Quarter Cancer Center located in Portland, Oregon. This part-time position could be filled by either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant.

Employment Type:Part-time, 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week / 3 days)

Location: Rose Quarter Cancer Center (Portland, Oregon)

  • Please Note: This position is expected to relocate to our new clinic in Clackamas, OR in 2026.

Salary Range: $99,079-$191,552 (note: this compensation band is for full-time hours)

**Final offer amounts are determined by a review of the candidate's applicable experience and qualifications, as well as, internal employee equity considerations.

This Advance Practice Provider plays a crucial in enhancing the quality of life for patients with advanced cancer by addressing their physical, emotional, and psychological needs while supporting them in making informed decisions about their care. This role requires a strong commitment to patient advocacy and a deep understanding of palliative care principles. The job description for this position includes the following responsibilities and qualifications.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with advanced cancer, including physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects.
  • Develop and implement personalized care plans, in collaboration with the oncologists and palliative care team, to manage pain, symptoms, and side effects of cancer treatment.
  • Monitor and adjust pain management strategies to ensure optimal comfort and quality of life for patients.
  • Communicate with patients and their families to provide education, support, and emotional care.
  • Assist in discussing advanced care planning, end-of-life decisions, and goals of care.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families about palliative care principles and available resources.
  • Participate in weekly palliative care team meetings to discuss patient cases and make recommendations.
  • Provide support to help patients and families cope with the emotional and psychological aspects of cancer and end-of-life care.
  • Stay current with advances in palliative care, oncology, and pain management through ongoing education and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records, documenting patient assessments, interventions, and progress.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Oregon State Registered Nurse license and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program with Oregon State licensure
  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
  • Prior Palliative Care or oncology experience preferred
  • Clinically strong and remain well-informed on advances in palliative care
  • Knowledge of pain management strategies and symptom control.
  • Ability to connect with and empathize with patients and their families, as well as communicate effectively with other medical providers
  • Empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach to care
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Proficiency in medical record documentation
  • Understanding of ethical and legal aspects of end-of-life care and advanced care planning
