Primary Purpose:

Responsible for developing merchant processing sales opportunities through collaboration with Bank Officers, while also coaching Merchant Advisors throughout the merchant sales process. Merchant Services Advisors are the industry specialists for the Merchants Processing line of business.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Partner with TowneBank Officers to evaluate member/prospect merchant processing needs. Maintain communication with TowneBank Officers and members throughout the entire sales/implementation process.
  • Strive to meet established annual monetary and core incentive goals.
  • Obtain appropriate information about current processing methods and operations to develop proposals for TowneBank services.
  • Obtain all information necessary to complete the merchant processing application to include credit information for risk assessment.
  • Assist implementation specialists with coordinating equipment installation and on-site training for new merchants when needed.
  • Follow up to ensure member satisfaction and direct the member to ongoing service and support areas within TowneBank.
  • Conduct relationship reviews and meet with TowneBank officers, as needed to provide recommendations and enhancements for Merchant sales opportunities.
  • Make recommendations on profitability of fees for Merchant sales opportunities.
  • Maintain an updated sales pipeline.
  • Act as Sales Team coach / mentor and back up to Director of Merchant Services.
  • Assist Director of Merchant Services in:
  • Managing a team comprised of Merchant Service Advisors and Coordinators to provide leadership, coaching, feedback, and development in all aspects needed to achieve successful performance.
  • Overseeing a robust sales strategy and process along with understanding market intelligence on products to create sales plans that differentiate the banks Merchant solutions, market identity and value proposition.
  • Administering the development of actionable relationship plans for target members.
  • Managing, guiding and coaching on the development of high-quality member proposals/presentations / RFPs.
  • Helping direct reports and team in generating new deposits from existing and potential TowneBank Members.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership, follow-up, and project management skills.
  • Be self-managed to complete the task at hand and proactively pursue other work as tasks are completed.
  • Participate in ongoing education of merchant processing industry and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance regulations.
  • Adheres to applicable federal laws, rules, and regulations including those related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).



Minimum Required Skills & Competencies:



  • Experience in a sales environment
  • Goal oriented
  • Strong partnership and organization skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong problem solving, and negotiation skills
  • Must be proficient in technology applications
  • General knowledge of commercial and retail banking products and regulations



Desired Skills & Competencies:



  • Merchant processing industry experience
  • Participate in Electronic Transaction Association, Certified Payments Professional course and maintains credits
  • Outside sales experience
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Proficiency with existing banking systems



Physical Requirements:



  • Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word via email and verbally.
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, use your arms and legs, and sit most of the time.
  • Have close visual acuity to perform activities such as analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and preparing documentation.
