Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Central Sterile Tech I in the Office of Clinical Affairs at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (
RSDM).
The Central Sterile Tech I performs work related to the reprocessing of patient care items in the central sterilization area associated with patient care within the various clinical operations. Additionally, the Central Sterile Tech I handles assigned projects and provides work direction and guidance as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Performs activities within the department, including but not limited to cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, assembly and sterilization of instruments, items and devices used during the provision of patient care.
- Operates equipment utilized in reprocessing and monitors function following standard precautions and established procedures.
- Supports Lead Tech and Program Coordinator with new staff orientation, on the job training activities, and student sterilization rotation pertaining to the Central Sterilization department as needed.
- Assists in coordinating daily workflow in the absence of the Lead Sterile Tech. Demonstrates the ability to take charge of the processing functions by appropriately facilitating the team members in the performance of their assignments in the best interest of the department.
- Maintains an orderly department, monitoring supply levels in the work areas and participates in the rotation of stock monitoring for expiration dates.
- Interacts professionally with other departments and personnel within the RSDM providing service/support at the intake and dispatch windows.
- Participates in Quality Assurance activities as assigned. Processes sterilization monitoring devices and records test results manually and electronically.
- Coordinates with the Lead Sterile Tech to ensure all cassettes, miscellaneous items, student handpieces and burs are organized and available for the students CDCA exams.
- Follows Standard Precautions insuring and maintaining a safe, clean, sanitary & time efficient working environment by adhering to RSDM Infection Control Policy and complying with federal, state and departmental policies.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Two (2) years of experience in a health care, medical or dental setting or a closely related setting using sterile procedures required.

- New Jersey Central Service Certification (HSPA or CBSPD) is required.
