Job Description

The Data Classification & Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that enterprise data within PCC's data lake is properly classified, securely managed, and compliant with internal control plans and external regulations. This role bridges technical data operations (tagging, metadata management, and automation) with risk and compliance oversight (auditing, reporting, and control plan validation). The position will play a key role in operationalizing data governance through Unity Catalog and associated tooling while ensuring that regulatory and internal control requirements are met.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data classification rules for sensitive data (e.g., ITAR, PII, Confidential)
  • Apply and monitor metadata tags within Databricks Unity Catalog (or other cataloging tools)
  • Automate tagging pipelines to improve accuracy and reduce manual intervention
  • Continuously improve classification models using AI-based or rule-based techniques
  • Translate compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001) into technical tagging and access-control standards
  • Perform regular control plan reviews to verify that access controls align with data classification levels (e.g., row-level security, column masking)
  • Conduct internal audits to validate classification and document compliance for external review
  • Investigate and remediate incidents involving misclassified or exposed data
  • Collaborate with Security, Compliance, and Engineering teams to maintain unified governance processes * Develop user training, awareness, and reference materials for classification best practices
  • Contribute to PCC's enterprise data strategy by ensuring data is trustworthy, well-documented, and secure

Experience and Education

  • 7+ years' experience in data governance, compliance management, or related data operations
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in information systems, cybersecurity, data management, or a related field
  • Preferred: prior experience managing compliance for ITAR, EAR, or export-controlled data
  • Preferred certifications: CIPP, CIPM, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer, or equivalent

Required Skills

  • Experience using Databricks Unity Catalog or similar metadata cataloging tools
  • Experience designing and implementing automated tagging and classification pipelines
  • Strong understanding of metadata management, data lineage, and stewardship practices
  • Knowledge of major compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, ITAR)
  • Experience conducting data audits, compliance reviews, and remediation workflows
  • Proficiency writing and reading SQL
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT pipelines and scripting (Python preferred)
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proactive mindset toward risk mitigation and continuous improvement

Key Metrics

  • Percentage of data assets with correct classification tags
  • Automation coverage for classification and tagging
  • Number of compliance findings or incidents per quarter
  • Average time-to-resolution for misclassification or access violations

Travel

  • Occasional travel to support sites, attend team meetings, and for training

For informational purposes only, the range for annual base salary for this role is $130,000 to $145,000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Executive Bonus Plan, paid out up to 20% of the applicable annual base salary, based on the Company's performance in the prior calendar year. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)).
