A Brief Overview
The Level II Nursing Informaticist is an experienced informatics nurse and internal consultant who partners with the Department of Nursing and Clinical Care Services, providers, Allied Health, Business and DTS teams to support the successful, design, implementation, adoption and interoperability of clinical and non-clinical information systems across the CHOP enterprise. Also serves as the clinical lead during information system downtimes.

The Level II Informaticist is directly engaged in enterprise, capital and operational informatics projects. Utilizing process improvement and change management techniques, the Level II Informaticist is responsible for identifying and implementing improvement opportunities with an aim of harm and risk reduction, improving workflows and care delivery, and evaluating the effectiveness of integrated technologies. Also provides support as they partner with other informaticists in process improvement initiatives.

The Level II Nursing Informaticist adheres to the organizational and DTS department mission, vision and values. S/he practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice, the ANA Nursing Informatics Scope and Standards of Practice; and CHOP developed standards of nursing practice. The Level II Nursing Informaticist practices within the defined scope of practice designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania.

What you will do

  • Leadership:
  • Develops skills to serve as the hub of inter-professional communication and is a liaison between Digital & Technology Services and nursing, providers, allied health and non-clinical end users.
  • Develops and maintains effective partnerships with nursing and clinical leadership.
  • Analyzes clinical and non-clinical Digital & Technology Services to determine applicability to nursing and clinical practice, operational processes, administration and research.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Coordinates clinical communication and guides clinical workflow processes during downtime events and through EHR reconciliation.
  • Continues to develop skills to serve as the Clinical Lead during information system downtimes.
  • Continues to develop skills to Lead core and sub-teams for operational and implementation work.
  • Consults with individuals and groups in defining healthcare information problems, identifies methods for implementing, utilizing and modifying DTS solutions and data structures to support healthcare access, delivery and evaluation.
  • Works collaboratively with Nursing Shared Governance.
  • Identifies the impact of clinical and non-clinical Digital & Technology Services on clinical workflows and collaborates with stakeholders to mitigate identified risks
  • Analyzes clinical and non-clinical information systems to determine applicability to nursing and clinical practice, education, business processes and research.
  • Communicates with key stakeholders, sponsors and internal customers, giving presentations, project updates and gathering input on key informatics initiatives.
  • Change & Quality Management:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of system life cycle
  • Complies with defined framework for system implementation for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating changes within clinical and non-clinical Digital & Technology Services.
  • Can operationalize change by using quality methodologies for standardizing processes in accordance with current evidence, quality initiatives, regulatory and billing compliance.
  • Collaborates in the development of risk/benefit matrices of alternate solutions to help internal customers with decision making.
  • Recognizes the impact of change on clinical and non-clinical systems and strategically plans communication and education to assure adoption across the system.
  • Collaborates with internal customers for problem identification
  • Accurately documents current and future state workflows and business requirements.leads integrated and upgrade testing including script writing and obtains user sign off
  • Does gap analyses and works with clients to identify solutions to close identified gaps and mitigate risks
  • Develops post implementation and transition to operation requirements.
  • Provides support for system upgrades.
  • Process Improvement
  • Utilizes process improvement skills and provides basic guidance to clinical and business stakeholders
  • Serves as a project consultant in the design and implementation of Digital & Technology Services.
  • Utilizes skills to work with internal customers, validates customer requests and completes the workflow design through the following methods:
  • Capture and document current state
  • Document future state requirements
  • Document current pain points
  • Create workflow recommendations for clients;
  • Analyze gaps between current and future state and the software being implemented
  • Collaborate with other Epic modules when designing workflow to assure integration points are accounted for;
  • Liaise between the SA's and clinical and business teams;
  • Track progress of the work being completed;
  • Develop post implementation and transitional requirements and build and maintain customer relationships
  • Continues to develop an understanding of data and data quality standards.
  • Supports the integration of data, information and knowledge which are applied to decision support and business intelligence tools. (Data warehousing).
  • Utilizes auditing and review processes to ensure project goals and deliverables are met.
  • Collaborates with analysts to define system and technical requirements to complete the system build to meet the workflow chosen;
  • Participates in Epic Vendor visits/follow up visits and collaborates with the Core Clinical Team for uploading requirements documentation
  • Research & Education:
  • Provides support to clinical research teams and assists clinicians in utilization of research and evidenced based practice initiatives.
  • Assists with the development of training materials and provides on-going support of clinical Digital & Technology Services.
  • On-Call Support:
  • Provides primary on-call support as the clinical lead for information system degradations downtimes.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing - Required
  • Master's Degree - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years nursing experience - Required and
  • At least one (1) year informatics experience - Required and
  • Previous experience in a role requiring leadership - Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Information Security Requirements:
  • Understand and comply with all enterprise and IS departmental information security policies, procedures and standards.
  • Support the integration of information security in the development, design, and implementation of Hospital Technology Resources that process, transmit, or store CHOP information.
  • Support all compliance activities related to state, federal regulatory requirements, healthcare accreditation standards, and all other applicable regulations that govern the use and disclosure of patient, financial, or other confidential information

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and
  • Certified Informatics Nurse (RN-BC) - American Nurses Credentialing Center - within 18 months - Required or
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS) - Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society - within 18 months - Required
  • Project Management Certification (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI) - upon hire - Preferred

SALARY RANGE:
