Pay Range:$193,020- $244,752 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary range in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Job Description

We have an opening for anES&H Integrated Safety Team (IST) Leaderserving in the Global Security (GS) Directorate to provide leadership for all ES&H activities. The GS IST supports nineteen main facilities and numerous programmatic activities, ranging from moderate to high hazard, which are performed in an effort to anticipate, innovate, and deliver responsive solutions to complex global security needs. You will be responsible for ensuring the flow-down and the implementation of institutional ES&H policies and programs within the GS programs and line organizations and will provide consultative support using leading-edge principles, technologies, and best practices in safety leadership and organizational effectiveness. This position will be in the ES&H Integrated Safety Teams Department and matrixed to the GS Deputy Principal Associate Director for Operations.

This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week

You will

  • Lead the development and execution of the ES&H Program for the GS Principal Associate Directorate, encompassing industrial, laser, radiological, biological, environmental, ergonomic, and chemical/hazardous materials safety.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary ES&H team, ensuring resources, priorities, and performance align with GS programmatic mission objectives, and supporting onboarding and career growth in coordination with Functional Area Managers.
  • Advise GS leadership on Integrated Safety Management (ISM) implementation and interpret ES&H policies to guide strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture that emphasizes active field presence, responsiveness, customer service, and integration of safety into mission delivery.
  • Coordinate ES&H support across GS facilities and projects, ensuring consistent program implementation, compliance, and communication across GS, ES&H, and other directorates by facilitating collaboration, resolving competing priorities, and driving unified solutions.
  • Provide leadership during emergencies as the ES&H Liaison to the Incident Commander and direct the IST in response and recovery operations.
  • Support investigations and analyses of safety incidents, injuries, and illnesses, identifying both tangible and intangible contributing factors, and communicating lessons learned and innovative solutions to GS Management.
  • Perform high-level ES&H reviews of non-DOE sponsored projects in coordination with Responsible Individuals (RIs) and provide ES&H attestation to LFO.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, ES&H, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Significant experience in ES&H program management and Human Performance concepts and/or related performance improvement methodologies in a highly technical organization focusing on diverse, cutting-edge experimental science.
  • Highly advanced knowledge in two or more ES&H discipline areas: Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Radiation Protection, Work Planning and Control and Environmental Protection.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, mentor staff, and manage ES&H operations.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of personalities and disciplines, with management at all levels and in presentations to large and diverse audiences at both the management and technical level, e.g., Principal Associate Directorate senior management, DOE Livermore Site Office, DOE-HQ and other state and government agencies on ES&H assurance activities.
  • Proven ability to navigate organizational politics, build consensus, and facilitate complex discussions among stakeholders with differing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment with advanced analytical, technical, and organizational decision making and problem-solving skills in order to safely and compliantly accomplish directorate objectives.
  • Familiarity with DOE orders, regulations, and Integrated Safety Management (ISM) principles, and experience applying them in a national laboratory or similar federal research environment.
