Hornblower is seeking an Engineering Technician, Electronic for our Seaward Services operation in Norfolk VA.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's' RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

This role will be performed at Naval Surface Warfare Center., upon reward of contract. The Engineering Technician, Electronic provides advanced technical support for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of small watercraft electronic systems. This position is responsible for ensuring all electronic systems, including navigation, communication, control, and instrumentation, operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with engineering and program requirements. The technician serves as a technical lead, providing guidance to a team of electronics personnel and coordinating with engineering and maintenance staff to ensure high system readiness and performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Perform inspection, installation, testing, and maintenance of small watercraft electronic and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in navigation, communication, sensor, and control systems.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure full operational capability of onboard electronics.
  • Lead and train a team of electronic technicians, providing technical direction and oversight of work quality.
  • Support system-level testing, instrumentation setup, and data collection during vessel trials or evaluations
  • Ensure all maintenance and modifications are completed in accordance with applicable technical manuals, drawings, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain documentation, maintenance logs, and technical reports to ensure accurate configuration management.
  • Collaborate with engineering and logistics personnel to plan and schedule maintenance activities and upgrades.
  • Enforce compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality assurance policies.
  • Recommend process improvements and support the development of technical documentation.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.


Requirements & Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of small watercraft electronic experience, including testing, maintenance, repairs, operations, and troubleshooting required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience leading an electronic team required.
  • Certification or training in marine electronics, electrical systems, or related technical fields.
  • Experience with U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, or other military small watercraft electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with radar, GPS, sonar, radio communication, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience maintaining documentation in accordance with engineering and quality standards.
