Position Title: Assistant Manager of Loan Underwriting Business Unit: Retail Lending Reports to: Manager of Loan Underwriting Position Overview: This position is primarily responsible for leading a team of Loan Underwriters while maintaining production analyzing new loan application requests. The incumbent performs the most complex transactions, provides more in-depth analysis, assists management in training, reviews loan requests over Loan Underwriters 1 and 2 lending authority. The incumbent plays a major role in the acquisition of loan assets utilizing appropriate risk management discipline and provides feedback for end of year reviews based on observations in loan reviews. Primary Responsibilities: Reviews loan applications from consumers and small businesses within the Bank's delivery channels or directly through dealer channels to evaluate a degree of risk involved and determines the acceptance of applications. Verifies all application information for accuracy and completeness though validation of loan data against documentation provided. Develops and administers a portfolio of loans by analyzing applications and credit reports obtaining approval for loans that are underwritten within established lending limits. Evaluates the quality of credit applications in order to originate a profitable loan portfolio, protect the Bank from loss and to provide the highest quality of service to deliver best in class loan fulfillment services. Meets or exceeds the Bank's credit quality, profitability, growth and service objectives without compromising quality according to established guidelines and procedures and measured by an acceptable delinquency ratio, net charge-off and growth goals in order to originate a profitable portfolio. Develops partnerships with loan processors and Bank branch personnel to improve overall customer satisfaction. Maintains the customer relationships that were developed by the loan originators including Bank branch personnel and the Business Development and Underwriter and the Loan Underwriters 1 and 2. Acts as a primary credit decision entity for loans in the department and provides leadership and guidance to developing Underwriters. Typically, the incumbent has a higher level of lending authority. Resolves customer and branch complaints or problems by investigating the complaint including obtaining facts, documenting information and proposing solutions that comply with government regulations and are in accordance with established policies and procedures timely and courteously in order to ensure an equitable settlement of the complaint or problem. Performs operational duties such as ensuring lien perfections and insurance protection and analyzing credit reports according to established loan policies and procedures and in a timely manner to protect the Bank from loss and ensure compliance with established in-house and regulatory requirements. Provides feedback to management for year end reviews based on observations made while reviewing Retail Lending Underwriter 1 and 2 loan requests that are over their lending authority. Assists in training of new Underwriters and on-going training for existing Underwriter. Fills in when management is out of the office. Assists in the engagement of a diverse staff to optimize profitability balancing volume and credit adherence and risk management. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
