The opportunity

The Principal Data Platform Engineer will report directly to the Director of Data Engineering. You will have experience with designing, implementing data platforms using Microsoft Azure services. You will drive collaboration, innovation, and adherence to best practices to meet our needs with scalable and secure solutions.

You will work 100% remotely from any of our approved working states. #LI-Remote

What You'll Do:

  • Build data ingestion pipelines from source systems to multiple data stores using Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Work with peers in operations, provide principal practices and engineering recommendations based on current operational and technical capabilities, and corporate constraints
  • Establish, promote and enforce best practices in platform implementation and coding standards. Provide technical mentoring and assistance to team members.
  • Provide technical support for operations as new platforms are rolled out.
  • Collaborate on design with Data Platform Architects and implement data transformation and loading services
  • Implement new Data Platform Services.
  • Align with our needs and focus on scalability, performance, and cost efficiencies
  • Trusted advisor to the business
  • Understand the Five Pillars of architecture
  • Understand implementing and operating secure technology applications on multiple Cloud platforms
  • Perform both managed and independent research (POCs whitepapers, studies to stay current on the latest data tier capabilities and determine business and technical value for potential injection into roadmap

What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ Years of experience as a Data Platform Engineer.
  • 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • 3+ years working within or supporting Higher Education Operations.
  • Experience with Azure platform services like Azure Storage, Database PaaS Services, Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Logic & Function Apps, Application Services and familiarity with MS Fabric.
  • Experience with Data Warehousing platforms and workloads incl. Data Modeling (e.g. stars schema design).
  • Experience with Database principles and programming (e.g. SQL & T-SQL).
  • Experience with Data analytics "medallion" architecture (e.g. Data Lakehouse)
  • Experience with model, workflow, and pipeline architectures for ML and deep learning workloads.
  • Experience with process automation approaches and tooling (e.g. DevOps, AIOps).
  • Experience with Integration methodologies and tools (e.g. ETL/ELT, CDC/streaming/replication.)
  • Experience of API and Microservices architecture.
  • Programming paradigms and approaches (e.g. object-oriented).

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $125,298.00 - $200,516.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $138,456.00 - $187,323.00.
