Job DescriptionThe Police Lieutenant occupies a command position assigned to the Chief of Police. Responsible for performing supervision of the patrol division and investigation division, and administrative duties within the department that involve the safety and security of the college. Perform supervisory, administrative and technical work in directing the duties of the assigned divisions or personnel.
Hiring Range is $88,678.60 to $101,980.39 USD Annual.
The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Equivalent combination of education, training and relevant professional experience will be considered.
Education & Experience
Required Qualifications
High School graduate or the equivalent. Have a current Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Must have Proficient Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal Laws. Eight (8) years of Concurrent TSTC Police Experience. Skilled in the Use and Care of Firearms, Vehicles, and other Common Police Equipment. Basic to Intermediate Computer Skills. Working Knowledge of Modern Policing Issues, Philosophies, Practices and Trends applied within the College Environment preferred. Perform Essential Duties/Responsibilities from Job Descriptions of Subordinate Ranks. Knowledge of First Aid; and the Ability to Gain Compliance with the Law in a Professional Manner. Skill in Completing Accident and Criminal Investigations. Ability to Supervise and Training Employees, to include Organizing, Prioritizing, and Scheduling Work Assignments Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills. Ability to Work Effectively with a Wide Range of individuals in a Diverse Community. Ability to Gather and Organize Evidence. Ability to Provide Legal Depositions and Testimony. Knowledge of Laws, Regulations, Methods, and Techniques in Area(s) of Specialty. This job description covers a position in which the percentage of time on the essential functions will vary based on the workload and will ultimately be determined by the Chief of Police or Lieutenant or his designee. Must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation; to include but not limited to, driving history, criminal background, and credit history. Clery Act for Campus Security Authorities Training within 3 months of appointment. Work is performed primarily within an office environment. When assigned duties are administrative, however, may occasionally experience outdoor weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications
Education: Minimum Associates Degree; preferred Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field Experience: Minimum years 15 years of police experience; preferred 8 or more years in a college or university setting. A Master's degree may be considered in lieu of years of experience Certifications: Master Peace Officer Certification Executive Leadership courses and/or Certification.
