Job Summary

Under close supervision, responsible for providing a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients. Provides direct patient care and may conduct therapeutic group sessions under the direction and supervision of the RN. Provides input to the RN to help develop the plan of care and assists in carrying out the plan of care for assigned patients. Assists with the admission of new patients and orients new patients and families to the unit.

Essential Functions:

  • Obtains vital signs on assigned adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. (10%)

  • Provides care to patients in seclusion/restraint according to 27-10 regulations and department policy and procedure. (10%)

  • Collects laboratory specimens on assigned patients as directed by RN staff. (10%)

  • Abides by legal aspects of care as defined by C.S. 27-10 including patients' right. (5%)

  • Consistently treats fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (10%)

  • Differentiates normal from abnormal findings and reports abnormal values or conditions to the RN. (10%)

  • Ensures all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients/clients to who care/service is being provided. (10%)

  • Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient's status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/service is being delivered. (10%)

  • Engages in Service Recovery when necessary while maintaining a patient first philosophy.
    (5%)

  • Assists with admission, discharges, transfer and appropriate documentation. (10%)

  • Charting patient visits using an electronic medical record. (10%)

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years 2 years of relevant experience Required

Licenses:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Human relations and effective communication skills.

  • Able to effectively manage and direct clinical and support staff

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
