Job Description

We're hiring a Staff Process Engineer to implement automation solutions within our growing Operations team. In this role, you will serve as a primary technical architect for the automated systems and equipment strategies required to ramp production of our iron air battery. You will lead the high-level design and integration of complex robotic cells and automated hardware, driving technical roadmaps that eliminate manufacturing bottlenecks and ensure long-term equipment reliability. By establishing standards for automation and precision control, you will ensure our production environment delivers a high volume of top quality products. Your leadership will be the cornerstone in achieving the manufacturing volume needed to help stabilize the grid.

This opportunity is based out of Form Factory 1 - Form Energy's 550,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Weirton, WV, a commutable distance from Pittsburgh. Purpose-built for high-volume, advanced battery production, Form Factory 1 is a hub of fast-moving, collaborative work driving a new era of large-scale American energy manufacturing in the heart of the Rust Belt.

Relocation assistance is available.

What You'll Do

  • Own and improve manufacturing processes for modular products, including semi-manual and automated stations.

  • Lead the design and definition of build methods, tooling, and poka-yoke solutions to ensure safe, repeatable, high-quality production.

  • Collaborate with product design engineering to provide DFM/DFA feedback, ensuring optimization for fully-automated, high-speed manufacturing.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment with controls and equipment teams to integrate automation solutions such as torque tools, lift devices, vision checks, and interlocks.

  • Lead root-cause analysis of assembly and quality issues, turning findings into durable process, tooling, or automation improvements.

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for root-cause analysis of assembly or quality issues, implementing durable hardware and logic-based solutions across the organization.

  • Support production ramp and sustaining operations, stabilizing builds and reducing variation across shifts

  • Mentor and guide multidisciplinary engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence in automated system design and pragmatic problem-solving.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline and 7+ years of relevant experience

  • Deep technical understanding of semi-manual and automated assembly processes for complex systems.

  • Extensive experience developing assembly methods, tooling, fixtures, and work instructions in an automated production environment.

  • Proven track record of providing DFM/DFA feedback to product design teams, influencing part design, interfaces, tolerances, and fastening strategies to improve manufacturability.

  • Hands-on CAD experience for assembly fixtures, tooling, and station layouts.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address process, design, and human-factor-driven issues.

  • Effective communicator across production, quality, and product design teams.
