Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Howmet Engine Products Quality Vice President, the NonDestructive Testing (NDT) Responsible Level 3 provides leadership, guidance, program management, and technical support to NDT organizations leading the drive to process improvement, highly effective quality controls, and operational excellence across all NDT methods and all BU locations. This includes Radiography, Fluorescent Penetrant, Ultrasonic, Grain and Visual inspections, and leverages emerging technologies to achieve the business goals and objectives. This shall be accomplished through professionalism, dedication, experience and knowledge in NDT requirements and technology, driving adherence to standards and robust processes, and focused standardization of best practices and Leader Standard Work. This person will also manage processes and personnel in a cohesive set of key performance metrics that provides objective evidence regarding the health and effectiveness of NDT operating systems. They shall also create and maintain cross functional relationships needed to foster a proactive engagement culture amongst the business operational teams and a productive working relationship with customers. Finally, this person will create and foster a team-building environment to enable the development and sustainability of the overall process and embrace and lead new technology.

Essential Functions

  • Establish and execute training and certification program for all NDT personnel under the company's approved written practice. Maintain certification records in accordance with industry and business requirements.
  • Assure all training material is current and in compliance with all customer requirements and current industry standards.
  • Establish a presence as the NDT expert inspector, trainer, auditor and customer advocate in respective NDT discipline to assure consistent quality and specification compliance.
  • Continuous validation regarding the effectiveness of the NDT program, systems and personnel skills via defined audits and production iteration activities.
  • Advise executive leadership on contract NDT efforts related to customer and industry requirements as requested.
  • Assume direct leadership for all NDT methodologies for all Howmet Engine Products plants as defined by the Responsible Level 3 and advise VP of Quality on performance trends.
  • Establish and maintain a forward-looking quality control strategy encompassing workforce expansion, skills assurance and compliance, and equipment automation among others that aligns to business objectives by leveraging current and emerging NDT methods and technologies.
  • In collaboration with business segment leaders, coach and develop employees in the application of NDT methods in products and processes to achieve business goals.
  • Mentor Level 3 successors and coach NDT personnel to advance within the NDT discipline. Challenge and motivate NDT personnel, through demonstrated leadership.

Core Competencies

  • Lead NDT compliance and standardization for all BU sites, drive process and program management across all NDT methodologies used in plants.
  • Continuously assess health of the business systems against customer and/or industry standards through an efficient and effective NDT internal audit/corrective and preventative action management system.
  • Lead team and develop relationships, both internally and externally, to achieve the necessary engagement, influence and customer connections (both internal and external) required.
  • Lead with energy by consistently identifying and overcoming challenges and possessing a highly developed quantitative, as well as qualitative skill.
  • Leader and teacher in Problem Solving and Preventive Corrective Action Principles - Proactive approach (to foresee problems rather than reacting after the event)
  • Lead the program management of new NDT technology integrations, incorporate read-across communications to all sites by data sharing and out-reaching collaboration.
  • Strong ability to multi-task in a demanding environment, demonstrate highly effective program to task management skills, able to work independently with limited instruction.
  • Demonstrate business acumen (financials, linkage of quality/NDT impact to financials, structured problem-solving thinking) required.
  • Must possess practical understanding of manufacturing processes in order to objectively and independently analyze problems, communicate effectively and facilitate problem solving activities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or a related 2year degree in a NonDestructive Testing (NDT) discipline with 4 years of aerospace NDT experience.
  • In lieu of degree, 8 years of aerospace NDT experience
  • Current Level III certification under ASNT/NAS 410 or another recognized NDT accreditation (requirements may vary by country)
  • Willingness to travel (both domestic and internationally) >75% required.
  • Exceptional communication skills: proficiency in basic office & computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Certification in two methods used by Howmet highly desirable (RT-PT-UT-VT-Grain) with heavy emphasis on RT/CT experience.
  • Previous NDT experience in investment castings highly desirable.
  • Additional education, SQE, Six Sigma, APQP, SPC statistical management training is a plus.
  • NDT Auditing Experience preferred utilizing NADCAP checklists.
  • Previous experience in project/program management is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus - subject to NAS 410 eye examination requirements and Company eye exam J1 at not less than 14" or equivalent.
  • This position requires travel by car or plane, and correspondingly duties may be performed in various settings.
