REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a Custodian.


THIS JOB ANNOUNCEMENT WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED AND MAY CLOSE AT ANYTIME.

Specifically, this position involves semi-skilled manual work maintaining, cleaning, and restocking facilities at Port Everglades:
Employee provides janitorial services, cleaning, and maintaining facilities orderly. Work involves public contact and requires a neat appearance and a positive attitude. Work is performed in accordance with established practices pertaining to Port-owned and operated buildings. Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor, but the employee will be required to work independently as necessary. Work is inspected while in progress and upon completion.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) months in commercial cleaning, custodial work and related maintenance work or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment.
Preferences
6+ months of experience operating cleaning machinery such as buffers, floor scrubbers, et c.

SCOPE OF WORK

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Sweeps, mops, scrubs and buffs floors; cleans walls, ceilings, and woodwork; washes windows.

Cleans rest rooms and replenishes supplies.

Dusts; empties waste baskets; changes light bulbs.

Moves and sets up furniture; prepares rooms for scheduled programs and activities.

Operates and cleans manual elevators.

Cuts grass on adjoining lawns; collects litter and sweeps walks around public buildings.

Cleans offices, break rooms, halls, stairways, and similar areas in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff.

Performs a variety of light maintenance activities in order to maintain a safe, clean work environment, facilitate ongoing operations, and maintain day-to-day services.

Maintains inventory of a variety of cleaning products and supplies.

May perform a variety of security related duties in accordance with established security procedures.

Performs related work as assigned.
