The Role

We are looking for a detail -oriented and an analytical individual to work on our Underwriting team as a Senior Actuarial Analyst. In this role, you will report to Actuarial Manager or Director, Actuarial Services and be responsible for is responsible for owning work from start to finish, including project planning, pulling data, performing analysis, and communicating results to nontechnical audiences. The Senior Actuarial Analyst will work both independently and collaboratively with Underwriting, Claims, Data and Analytics, Finance, and other areas. The Senior Actuarial Analyst will perform both traditional and nontraditional actuarial functions including ratemaking, reserving, predictive modeling, and additional ad hoc analysis.

Key Result Areas

  • Perform and enhance annual ratemaking reviews
  • Develop rates for new states and/or lines of business
  • Collaborate with the chief actuary and others to create reserve reviews
  • Perform and large account pricing process
  • Provide other areas with data and analysis to support better business decisions
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed by the business
  • Assist with planning, financial strength comparison, and strategic analysis
  • Commit to the Actuarial Leadership Development Program and pass one or more Actuarial exams per year
  • Learn new programming languages as needed by the business
  • Effectively explain technical results to non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to managing profitability of the insurance portfolio through rate analyses and support for external rate filings.
  • Enhance pricing tools to assess the core insurance business.
  • Facilitate communication and provide technical guidance to Underwriting and other functional departments regarding the pricing of new and/or existing business.
  • Participate in special projects to improve operational excellence within the insurance company and support company growth targets.

Key Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • 3+ Actuarial Exams
  • 4+ years of Property & Casualty insurance experience
  • Bachelor degree preferably in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication style
  • Demonstrated strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • 3 years of experience with SQL, Excel, and/or r

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 5+ Actuarial Exams or ACAS Designation
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty insurance experience
  • Medical Professional Liability insurance experience

Compensation

The base salary will be commensurate with an individual's work experience and educational background.
