Position Summary

The Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Hospitality Analytics, beginning in Fall 2026.

The successful candidate will join a globally recognized hospitality school and contribute to the Chaplin School's mission of integrating analytics, innovation, and industry collaboration into hospitality education and research. They will play a key role in ensuring our students are prepared for the modern industry by focusing on hospitality analytics, a specialized field that includes market studies, event impact assessments, economic analyses, and feasibility studies. Unlike general data analysis, which typically focuses on optimization and forecasting, hospitality analytics requires a nuanced understanding of the hospitality and tourism industry and the ability to translate complex datasets into actionable insights for real-world decision-making. The individual will be expected to conduct high-impact, industry-relevant research; partner with hospitality and tourism organizations to address pressing challenges; publish in peer-reviewed journals; teach engaging and meaningful courses; and provide service to the School, the University, and the broader academic community.

Responsibilities

Research & Scholarship:

  • Conduct and publish high-quality, industry-relevant research in hospitality analytics and related fields such as revenue management, consumer behavior, operations, marketing analytics, or service innovation.
  • Pursue external research funding and contribute to interdisciplinary projects across FIU and with global industry partners.
  • Collaborate with hospitality and tourism organizations to analyze real-world data, generate actionable insights, and translate research into industry impact.
  • Present research at leading academic and professional conferences.

Teaching:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in areas such as hospitality analytics, business intelligence, research methods, revenue management, or data-driven decision making.
  • Deliver engaging, meaningful, and authentic learning experiences that integrate real-world datasets, case studies, and analytics software.
  • Mentor students in research, career preparation, and professional development.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of analytics-focused courses and programs.

Service:

  • Provide service to the Chaplin School, FIU, and the broader academic and professional community.
  • Support accreditation, assessment, and strategic initiatives of the Chaplin School.
  • Engage with industry and professional organizations to enhance the School's visibility and impact.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned terminal degree (Ph.D. or D.B.A.) in hospitality management, tourism, business analytics, data science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (degree must be completed by the start date).
  • Demonstrated ability or potential for high-quality research and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of or potential for effective teaching in hospitality analytics or related fields.
  • Commitment to embracing the traditions of the various communities and students represented within the campus population, thus supporting the success of all students in the academic environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with industry partners on data analytics or applied research projects.
  • Expertise in analytical tools and software (e.g., Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or machine learning techniques).
  • Record of grant activity, consulting, or applied analytics work in hospitality or tourism.
  • Experience teaching in AACSB- or ACPHA-accredited programs.
  • Ability to incorporate innovation, sustainability, or emerging technologies into research and teaching.
