Job Overview

Leads all Environmental Health and Safety activities to reduce or eliminate Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) risks and impacts for the three Getinge facilities in New Jersey. Owner and responsible for all Environmental Health and Safety compliance materials and training programs based on federal legislation, ISO 14001 and corporate expectations.

Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties



  • Develops, coordinates, and maintains the Environmental Health & Safety program and related activities across three sites to ensure compliance with current and future legal, regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and presents regular strategic review of EH&S in the organization to Senior Site Leadership, managers, and staff and provides appropriate objectives and programs to improve overall EH&S performance and to defend against future liabilities.
  • Identifies, develops, and drives EH&S continuous improvement activities and strategic plan development to support Getinge's commitment to environmental health and safety.
  • Develops and manages EH&S budget inclusive of site safety initiatives, travel, and regulatory submissions.
  • Manage relationships with OSHA and ISO regulatory bodies inclusive of audit preparation and execution, annual reports, and ongoing communications.
  • Establishes and tracks metrics for assessing EH&S effectiveness in the organization, including the OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), the OSHA Lost Worktime Case Rate (LWR) and ISO 14001 environmental performance goals.
  • Provides the strategic plan to reduce worker injury and lost time rates across 11 diverse production lines, processes, and teams.
  • Leads the creation and maintenance of a best-in-class EH&S culture through cross-functional cooperation, communications, promotions, and training to the Senior Leadership Teams, Staff, and Direct Labor teams.
  • Establishes the priorities and is the owner of all environmental management programs impacting Getinge's environmental footprint, inclusive of manufacturing equipment, office and site initiatives.
  • Responsible for managing change in the ongoing development and implementation of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015).
  • Responsible for appropriate procedures, approvals, coordination and control of hazardous, regulated and solid wastes.
  • Ensures all EH&S regulatory reporting requirements are met in coordination with the EHS staff and other supporting functions
  • Responsible for emergency planning and takes leadership role in EH&S emergency situations. Ensures that adequate evacuation and response arrangements are in place for fire, accidents and all other emergency situations.
  • Co-owns the business continuity plan development and implementation with Facilities leader.
  • Responsible for directing EH&S incident investigations, identifying root causes, and executing sustainable corrective actions through project management, direction, and coaching.
  • Establish a cross-functional safety committee that participates in incident investigations, safety culture initiatives, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish a North American EH&S council comprised of other PA/BU EHS leaders to develop and articulate a North American EHS strategy.
  • Represents the company on EH&S affairs with relevant external parties ensuring adequate response to all regulatory and legal issues.



Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety or Environmental Management or related field is required (or equivalent), Masters a plus.
  • Must have working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OSHA, FDA GMP's requirements.



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • 7-10 years' experience in EH&S Leadership in a manufacturing environment is required. 10-15 years' experience in EH&S Leadership at a facility level is preferred.
  • Must have prior experience dealing with local Federal and State Authorities for permits and reporting.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills and be able to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and work independently to drive results.
  • Applied experience in the field of ergonomics and pro-active repetitive stress injury prevention is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, strategic thinking/planning, communication, and collaboration skills are essential.



Supervision/Management Of Others:



  • Responsible for the development and management of personnel and programs across all functions at the Wayne, Fairfield and Mahwah sites
  • 1-2 direct reports



Salary range: $150,000 - $180,000, 25% STIP
