| Organizational Unit Overview |
The Office of Clinical Skills Assessment and Education is a unit in the Division of Health Sciences. The primary purpose of our unit is to provide educational support services to faculty and students in the form of performance-based assessment and education.
We must maintain a highly trained workforce (e.g., SP,
PTA,
PAT,
GTA and
MUTA) and quality database of standardized cases. These standardized patients are trained on the simulated cases to assist and prepare our Medical, PA, Nursing, other student learners to prepare for clinical encounters with patients and advanced training (e.g. medical residents). |
| Job Duties |
This person will assist in the development/set up of Standardized Patient (SP) events. This entails assisting trainers to obtain from directors/faculty/clerkship coordinators accurate student information (e.g., number of students, student names, banner numbers), exam dates and times, contact person, and other information pertinent to a specific event. The person will utilize this information to develop the logistics for the event. Knowledge of technology is helpful in performing these functions.
This position will serve as the logistical support person for all events, on-site and off-site. This requires in-depth understanding of the various programs and services offered by the Office of Clinical Skills Assessment & Education and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously: complete attendance roster, orient students, direct placement of students to appropriate exam and classrooms, ensure all individuals (students, SPs, trainers, proctors, course director) have accurate materials for the event, communicate event concerns (e.g., technology issues, missing students and/or SPs). Ensuring that all material is readily available, complete, and appropriate.
This position will also serve as post event coordinator, recording accurate SP work hours, pay codes, and case portrayal; will collect and distribute SP evaluation data to appropriate trainer, and will restock event materials for the next event. Most importantly, this position will work to develop systems and processes to improve the operation, efficiency, and outcome of events.
The position will also contribute to the smooth operation of the office to include assisting with the orientation of new SPs, maintaining communication to ensure the new SPs have the materials needed to portray specific cases. This position will also assist in developing communication materials (website information, emails) and will offer suggestions that improve the delivery of services and programs.
This position has stressful conditions that, at times, require preparation of case materials within urgent deadlines and last-minute changes. Accuracy and timely processing of all documentation related to Standardized Patient work is required. |
