Position Summary

The Dean is the front-line student success champion supporting students and faculty within an academic division. The Dean will lead the development, implementation, and assessment of courses and academic programs designed to serve students. This position is responsible for aligning the division with the College-wide strategic plan and for encouraging and providing innovation and collaboration with faculty and other College areas.

Reports To: Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer (CAO)


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of academic programs and courses in collaboration with faculty and staff to ensure they are current, effective, producing successful graduates.
  • Manage course offerings to allow students to achieve their academic goals in a timely fashion in various instructional modalities.
  • Ensure the effective use of technology and best practices in learning and teaching by encouraging and supporting faculty's professional development.
  • Make data-informed decisions and recommendations to the CAO/Vice President for Academic Affairs regarding hiring, scheduling, budgeting, and equipment.
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate all division employees, including full-time and adjunct faculty, and staff.
  • Champion and support college and divisional initiatives including but not limited to community and industry outreach, college and career readiness, student success, and retention initiatives.
  • Develop and support the College and division's enrollment goals.
  • Develop the annual divisional and departmental budgets. Adhere to College purchasing and accounting processes.
  • Build and maintain partnerships among faculty, staff, administration, and external stakeholders, including business, industry, four-year colleges and universities, and K-12 partners.
  • Ensure that active and qualified advisory boards exist for career programs in the division to assess programs' relevance to, and curriculum alignment with, community and workforce needs.
  • Ensure that artifacts and reports are submitted as required to initiate or maintain departmental accreditation.
  • Partner with the Curriculum, Articulation and Transfer Coordinator and Executive Director of the University Center to seek out, implement, and maintain articulation agreements with four-year colleges.
  • Provide administration of appropriate grants to support division's program development, equipment, and students.
  • Act as the liaison with appropriate state committees and departments, other agencies, organizations and institutions relative to the division's programs.
  • Serve on various College committees and shared governance activities.
  • Support and participate in the College's commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership in the management of the Foglia Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation programs.
  • Partner with faculty on research, recommendation, and implementation of new and innovative technology and equipment to ensure that division programs are current with industry needs.
  • Work with faculty and Career Services to ensure that all division programs include industry supported and innovative work-based learning initiatives, including internships and apprenticeships.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Appropriate qualifications from a regionally accredited institution to teach in one of the division's career or technical disciplines, or transfer disciplines.
  • Evidence of increasing levels of administrative responsibilities.
  • Experience with employee evaluation.
  • Two years of leadership experience either in directly managing employees or in a project management role.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three years teaching experience at the community college level.

Skills and Specifications:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, staff and administrators.
  • Ability to organize work around broad organizational goals and processes.
  • Strategic planning ability and experience.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, and to be sensitive and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work independently yet have a strong team orientation and develop productive working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Commitment and respect for diversity.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the College's Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Priorities.
