Salary: The budgeted salary range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000 at the Assistant Professor level, $110,000 to $130,000 at the Associate Professor level, and $130,000 to $190,000 at the Full Professor level, based on 9-month academic appointments paid over twelve months. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience while also considering internal equity.

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Nursing invites exceptional nurse leaders to join the College as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing Science. Faculty are dedicated to advancing biological, behavioral and clinical science for adults with complex health disorders, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and more. Department faculty are leaders in professional organizations and serve on national research and professional boards, such as the Scientific Review Sections for the National Institutes of Health, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, and the Board of Scientific Advisors of the National Cancer Institute. Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching: Tenure-track faculty participate in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, demonstrating significant contributions and scholarship within the context of teaching. Teaching consists of traditional classroom lectures, small group seminars, distance learning, and clinical teaching of small groups. Graduate faculty are also responsible for student advisement, including supervising master, doctoral, and post-doctoral clinical projects and research/scholarship when applicable. Teaching assignments are determined in collaboration with the department head.
  • Demonstrates a range of teaching activities (e.g., teaching assistantships, lectures, courses taught, hours and nature of direct student teaching, numbers of students)
  • Demonstrates practice expertise in area of specialization (e.g., national certification/credentials as appropriate)
  • Demonstrates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching philosophy and approaches
  • Advocates for the elimination of bias and systems of oppression within nursing, healthcare and/or education


Scholarship/Research: Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop an independent program of scholarship and may contribute within a collaborative team. Research and/or scholarship productivity is expected to influence the practice of the discipline and the multidisciplinary nature of health care. Faculty are expected to mentor students into scholarship/research roles that may result in joint presentations and publications.

  • Engagement in continuous learning and self-evaluation


Service: Tenure-track faculty members are expected to contribute to the service mission of the university. Participation may include service at local, regional, national, and international levels.

Minimum Qualifications: A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or comparable research-focused doctoral degree in nursing or health-related sciences at the time of appointment.
