Position Summary
This position oversees the development of, implementation of and adherence to the academic and research compliance program for UI COM. Increases awareness of regulatory policies and coordinates programs to promote the observation of University guidelines focused on sponsored research activity, laboratory life-safety standards, and disclosures of outside activity.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the Conflict of Commitment and Interest (COCI)/Outside Activities process for the UICOM Dean's Office and provide recommendations to the Executive Dean and Vice Dean for Research on employee disclosures and assist with the development of effective conflicts of interest management plans
  • Assist the applicable Unit Executive Officer (UEO) in implementing "action steps" (e.g., follow-up audits, education, updating policies and procedures, etc.) that the COM needs to comply with State and Federal regulations.
  • In coordination with COM leadership, facilitate the development, evaluation, and implementation of the annual review of the UI COM Compliance Plan.
  • Keep current on State and Federal regulations, fraud alerts, and advisory opinions to ensure that employee and trainee compliance.
  • Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
  • Facilitate Principal Investigators development of appropriate protocols for the responsible use of both human and animal subjects in research.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Master's degree in business, legal, or public health required. Institutional Review Board Professional Certification (CIP) preferred.
    Minimum of 5 years of higher education experience, 2 years experience in an academic medical center environment working with physicians and health care providers, and 2 years experience in regulatory compliance.
    Knowledge and understanding of State and Federal regulatory compliance standards required. Computer literacy required.
    Working knowledge of policies and procedures related to the protection of human research subjects protections preferred.
    Strong management skills. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written skills.
