Position Summary

As an Engineer, you will work with team leadership to support key tasks to successfully develop, build and operate utility-scale solar, wind, and BESS projects.

Key Responsibilities

Development Activities

  • Update mid- to long-term production cost models based on generation and transmission topologies changes.

  • Develop in-house view of congestion trends for both greenfield and acquisition projects by performing medium- and long-term production cost analysis.

  • Analyze commercial impacts on projects due to planned generation additions/retirements, transmission development, and evolving energy market fundamentals.

  • Support project interconnection related activities at ISOs/TPs/TOs during the study phase of the project by analyzing studies received from ISOs/TPs and third-party consultants.

  • Participate in discussions with external consultants to support development of independent transmission, congestion, and curtailment reports for project financing efforts.

  • Support project offtake by performing in-house production cost analysis and/or by reviewing the analysis available from third-party consultants.

Market Fundamentals Support

  • Participate in and represent Deriva's position at various stakeholder forums at ISO, RTOs and PUCs.

  • Assess the impact of changes to market design on operational and/or development projects

  • Develop an in-house view of long-term Energy, Capacity and REC prices based on expected changes to supply and demand mix in the respective market footprint.

Operational Support

  • Update near- to mid-term production cost models based on the evolving market and grid conditions.

  • Develop in-house view of near- to mid-term congestion trends by performing production cost analysis for different market footprints.

  • Support trading team with scenario-based analysis to mitigate market risks for operational projects by participating in Day-ahead and FTR/CRR/TCR markets.

  • Participate in market operations related stakeholder forums at ISOs/RTOs.

  • Keep abreast of changing market regulations that could impact commercial viability of the project.

Basic Qualifications

Engineer II

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

  • In addition to required education, (2) years or more of relevant work experience

Engineer III

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

  • In addition to required education, (4) years or more of relevant work experience

Senior Engineer

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

  • In additional to required education, 5 years or more of relevant work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis in Power Systems is preferred

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline

  • Two (2) years or more of experience performing steady state/production cost/market operations analysis at an ISO

  • Transmission owner or technical consultant

  • Masters or PHD degree in a related field

  • Experience using power flow or production cost modeling tools like Power World, TARA, PSS/E, UPLAN, PORMOD, PROBE, GridView

  • Experience understanding and/or performing ISO system impact studies and transmission owner facilities studies

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders

  • Ability to work independently while providing subject matter expertise in a collaborative team environment

  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability

  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills
