Johnson County Aging and Human Services is recruiting for a Communications Coordinator. This position will close on December 5 at 5 pm.



Job Description

This position will assess, plan, implement internal and external communications and is responsible for maintaining and expanding digital media efforts, including content creation, social media management, creating videos, and supporting digital accessibility needs.

Additional duties include:

    Content Creation: Creating, maintaining and enhancing online information and materials. Developing content and informational materials tailored to diverse audiences and supporting translation services. Produces county-branded videos and writes articles for county publications.
  • Community Relations: Strengthening community outreach and public awareness. Assisting with proactive communication with internal staff, stakeholders, community partners, and the community. Represents AHS at community events and presentations. Executes and implements outreach activities as directed by department leadership; researches and suggests other innovative ways to engage the community in the support of the department initiatives; responds to public emails in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Website and Social Media: Serves as the department's primary contact for the website; ensures department's website page content is fresh and frequently updated; monitors website analytics; assists in redesign of Sharepoint and maintains minimal content support for Sharepoint; serves as an admin on official departmental social media accounts; researches and creates appropriate social media posts across active social media accounts; maintains a calendar of timely/appropriate/relevant content for posting on social media; responds to questions/comments on social media; works with leadership to provide accurate and appropriate responses to difficult questions.
  • Graphic Design and Branding: Creates and produces basic graphics and communications materials and distributes county-branded flyers, brochures and hand-outs; responds to requests for graphic elements, elevating detailed requests to AHS leadership and/or the county's communications team; develops charts and graphs for presentations; creates branded assets for promotional materials for department use.
  • Media Relations: Collaborates with the county's communication team to interact with and coordinate media requests; provides requested information to media with approval of leadership; works with county communications to write and distribute news releases, web stories, articles, and marketing materials that promote the mission of AHS.


Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or relevant field and one year of experience in Human Services, journalism, corporate or organizational marketing, communications or public relations, including experience using software to create graphic elements for social media and experience creating videos for social media or relevant experience are required. KS/MO driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.

Experience can be substituted for education or education can be substituted for experience.

Lifting requirement of 15-20 lbs. to assist setting up for events or transporting communication materials.
