Senior Fellow - McKinsey Health Institute
Job ID: 103504

Do you want to work on complex and pressing challenges-the kind that bring together curious, ambitious, and determined leaders who strive to become better every day? If this sounds like you, you've come to the right place.
Your Impact
You will be based in our Washington, D.C. office and serve as a senior leader within the McKinsey Health Institute (MHI), working closely with our Brain Health team.
In this role, you will advance the Institute's agenda to improve global brain health-including mental health, substance use, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions-while collaborating across McKinsey's client-serving teams to shape insights, build capabilities, and lead partnerships on brain-health related topics. You will also engage with global brain health leaders, ecosystem partners, and firm leaders across sectors to strengthen the evidence base, promote innovation, and mobilize action around brain health and brain capital.
You will contribute deep expertise to MHI projects and firm client teams, helping to frame problems, generate analytical insights, and translate emerging research into actionable recommendations. You will coach, lead, and advise teams of consultants as they structure challenges, develop solutions, and work directly with leaders across healthcare systems, the public sector, philanthropy, and the private sector. You will participate in and guide problem-solving sessions, provide oversight to engagement managers on team and client management, and serve as a thought leader shaping the firm's contributions to the global brain health field including topics such as brain economy, innovative investment, brain health workforce, crisis services, and trauma-informed care.
As a Senior Fellow, McKinsey will invest heavily in your professional development. You will receive training and coaching in inclusive leadership, team and client management, excellence, and structured problem solving. You will also have opportunities to publish, build partnerships, and contribute to the firm's broader knowledge agenda.
Brain health is foundational to human potential, economic prosperity, and societal resilience. With rising global burdens of mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions, there is an urgent need for stronger evidence, better models of care, innovative investment, and coordinated action across sectors. In this role, you will help shape how the McKinsey Health Institute and our partners understand and address these challenges-advancing the science, informing global leaders, and improving lives at scale.
Your Growth
Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is not easy work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high performance/high reward culture - doing hard things, picking yourself up when you stumble, and having the resilience to try another way forward.
In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we'll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become a stronger leader faster than you ever thought possible. Your colleagues-at all levels-will invest deeply in your development, just as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients. Every day, you'll receive apprenticeship, coaching, and exposure that will accelerate your growth in ways you won't find anywhere else.
When you join us, you will have:
  • Continuous learning: Our learning and apprenticeship culture, backed by structured programs, is all about helping you grow while creating an environment where feedback is clear, actionable, and focused on your development. The real magic happens when you take the input from others to heart and embrace the fast-paced learning experience, owning your journey.
  • A voice that matters: From day one, we value your ideas and contributions. You'll make a tangible impact by offering innovative ideas and practical solutions, all while upholding our unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity. We not only encourage diverse perspectives, but they are critical in driving us toward the best possible outcomes.
  • Global community: With colleagues across 65+ countries and over 100 different nationalities, our firm's diversity fuels creativity and helps us come up with the best solutions for our clients. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to learn from exceptional colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • World-class benefits: On top of a competitive salary (based on your location, experience, and skills), we provide a comprehensive benefits package to enable holistic well-being for you and your family.
Your qualifications and skills
  • Undergraduate degree required; master's degree in business, public health, education, or a related discipline preferred
  • 8+ years of experience as a consultant in a professional services firm required, with focus across topics of public sector, education, and behavioral health
  • Entrepreneurial drive to develop new client relationships and generate business development opportunities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to break down and solve business problems through quantitative thinking and analysis
  • Comfort with ambiguous, rapidly evolving situations
  • Publication of knowledge or thought leadership in relevant fields is a plus
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English
