GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:


The Sr. Manager, International Tax reports to the VP, Tax and has direct accountability to identify and offer detailed planning opportunities as related to global tax law changes, efficient cash taxes, and improved tax efficiency while remaining compliant with local tax rules and regulations and ensuring the Company is compliant with US international tax law. This position will be the primary contact for the regions in all tax matters governed by Corporate including oversight of all tax audits. This role will be responsible for drafting technical memos of tax matters inside and outside the US, which will include tax positions in any country, including the cash tax impacts and tax accounting impacts of tax positions. The position will also analyze all new tax laws, proposed and passed, around the globe.


The position will also work directly with the Divisions, Treasury and Accounting Departments on any matter that might have a tax impact including intercompany funding, settlement of intercompany transactions, and intercompany agreements to and ensure transfer pricing is appropriately applied.


The Sr. Manager, International Tax will also have the primary responsibility for preparation of the US tax forms 5471 and provide the Director of Income Tax Accounting foreign income related input for the quarterly and year-end Tax Provision. Support the VP, Tax in completion of third-party consultants' transfer pricing studies and implementation of resulting recommendations.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:



  • Maintains relationships and routine contact with regions and divisional accounting teams to discuss tax positions and matters globally on a regular basis
  • Drafts technical memorandums for both tax filing and tax accounting position.
  • Leads the overall internal and external processes for completion of Forms 5471 foreign entity reporting
  • Provides the US tax compliance input for the annual US tax return as it relates to International applications
  • Implements, monitors, supports, and documents transfer pricing policies on a worldwide basis,
  • Assists Director, Tax Accounting with quarterly and annual tax provisions as it relates to application of the US International Tax rules and regulations
  • Utilizes technical tax expertise to assist international business operations in structuring and conducting their day-to-day business activities in a tax efficient manner
  • Assists the VP, Tax in performing tax and business analysis of acquisitions, divestitures and restructurings involving foreign affiliates or foreign operation,
  • Identifies and evaluates for presentation to the VP, Tax, various foreign tax planning opportunities, and makes recommendations regarding their implementation
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of changes to Dole's legal entity structure, policies, operations and business practices in order to minimize taxes on foreign operations,
  • Assists in and provides oversight of the international aspects of US tax audits, as well as local audits of foreign affiliates, including drafting responses to requests for information, conducting discussions with the appropriate personnel, and providing assistance as required during any audit appeal process
  • Provides advice to Corporate Treasury department in order to optimally manage worldwide cash positions in a tax efficient manner, including financing for off-shore transactions, and tax efficient repatriation of offshore earnings and withholding tax minimization
  • Provides assistance in drafting internal legal documents, including contracts, promissory notes, and minutes
  • Provides guidance to respective accounting departments as to the proper accounting for transactions involving international operations,
  • In connection with accounting, legal, and IT departments, provides assistance in the design of systems and procedures to implement tax saving ideas
  • Performs tax research and planning in connection with all of the above activities

Required Skills

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:



  • Must have a minimum of 7 years' experience in the areas of ASC 740 and domestic and international U.S. income tax rules
  • Experience and skilled in tax research
  • Experience and skills in technical tax memorandum writing
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with other functions and the regions including consensus building skills
  • Proven ability to think strategically and effectively develop opportunities for improvement
  • Tax experience in both public and private settings is preferred
  • Proficiency in tax software applications and Microsoft Office Suite of application


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear. Ability to be stationary and utilize a variety of office equipment for long periods of time. Ability to travel independently. The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) up to 25 lbs or weight of personal luggage during travel.



WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as position require
  • Ability to travel up to 40% international and domestic, as required

Required Experience

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:



  • Must have a bachelor's degree or master's degree, preferably in accounting
  • CPA preferred
