Job Description
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY:
Provide patient care and help with the CF dental programs and manage student progress in the dental restorative and dental hygiene clinic. The Clinical Dentist is responsible for assisting students with patient care by providing local anesthesia to patients, prescribing radiographs, and performing restorative dentistry. He/she must possess a background in current clinical practice experience. This individual must have qualifications that comply with the state dental practice act.

PREREQUISITES FOR POSITION (Qualification Standards):
- Education or Training: Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D) degree from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) approved dental school and possess a license to practice dentistry in the State of Florida.
- Years of experience in the field: Two (2) years of experience is preferred.
- Special skills or abilities related to the position:
- HARD SKILLS: Operate medical equipment, diagnose patients, and form treatment plans.
- SOFT SKILLS: Ability to work effectively, ethically, and patiently with other professionals, students, and patients while providing high-quality care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CLINICAL DENTIST:
- Performance of clinical dentistry with or without instruction and supervision to dental assisting, dental hygiene, and/or dental students during clinic sessions.
- Authorization of radiographs, interpretation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and appropriate procedures for dental clinic patients as related to the needs of the dental program's instructional needs of students currently enrolled and patients of the clinic.
- Implementation and supervision of all appropriate infection control protocols in the clinic to adhere to CDC, OSHA, OSAP, and ADA recommendations.
- Participation in faculty meetings, curriculum reviews, advisory committees, and other projects as they relate to the programs.
- Responsible for the quality and accuracy of patient files for all patients receiving restorative procedures/care in clinical sessions.
- Responsible for ascertaining the adequacy of the patient pool and productive clinic schedule necessary for clinic sessions to meet the needs of students, the program, and the community set forth by the college.
- Have familiarity with Eagle Soft and Cerec Machine software.
- Liaison with Program Director, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, and faculty regarding student progress as it relates to clinical skills development.
- Oversee and facilitate in maintaining the professional clinical atmosphere.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS OF THE CLINICAL DENTIST:
- Option to provide didactic instruction to dental hygiene and or dental assisting students.
- Responsible for assisting in the coordination of appropriate quantities of clinical supplies, necessary for restorative clinical sessions.
- Represent the Dental Programs and participate in activities and organizations outside of the program and institution as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, the Associate Dean of Health Sciences, the Associate Vice President for Health Sciences, Vice President Workforce Development and Innovation, or the President of the College of Central Florida.
