| Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
This position is responsible for analyzing building automation and control systems/data and recommending modifications to achieve better operation or energy efficiency.
Detailed responsibiliites include:
- Develop, coordinate, and execute various facilities management, engineering, and planning of projects and assist with design review to sustain reliable university metering infrastructure on campus.
- Ensure equipment is operated in the most efficient manner to minimize operating costs associated with energy consumption, and equipment repair.
- Provide expertise, oversight, and vendor management to repair, calibrate and catalog all metering assets.
- Provide expertise and coordination as required to accurately catalog metering assets in AiM and/or BAS.
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and improvements to existing facilities; engineering and technical support, HVAC controls troubleshooting and review, emergency management and planning, remediation; and other related tasks as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director.
- Liaise with UNCW Facilities Planning and Design staff for new construction and planning as needed. Collaborate with design engineers, contractors, and facility staff, and provides direction to standardize the quality, system integration, and functionality during the construction of small and large projects.
- Provide expertise to develop physical and human resources to support a fully integrated and leveraged control department.
- Provide expertise to develop metering resources, processes, and procedures to fully leverage on-line readings, information, and maintenance.
- Determine the feasibility of project implementation or continuation, devise engineering with counterparts at other universities and colleges to compare operational matters and exchange data.
- Consultation and collaboration between Facilities leadership and contractors and engineers is required.
- Offer technical assistance on complex mechanical, structural, and civil engineering projects.
This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice or debris, as required.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment (mechanical or electrical disciplines); or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

| Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience |
- Experience with design and construction practices applicable to state construction projects.
- Basic engineering principles related to heat transfer, operation of mechanical equipment, electricity, refrigeration, and fluid flow - familiarity with general construction and maintenance practices for institutional buildings and infrastructure.
- Engineering drawings, HVAC systems and controls, plumbing and pumping systems, sanitary sewer systems, fire protection systems, operation of regional energy plants, and key systems.
- Troubleshoot problems associated with the operation of mechanical and energy systems.
- Familiarity with building codes and working knowledge of pneumatic control systems.
- 10 years of documentable work experience in the controls industry.
- 5 years experience in BAS metering resources.
- 2 years commissioning commercial BAS systems.
- 10 years of Project management experience.

The primary purpose of the
Physical Plant is to maintain the building, grounds, and infrastructure of the
UNCW campus so that it is safe, reliable, clean, and attractive. This includes departments such as
HVAC, Electric, Plumbing, Landscaping, Housekeeping, Motor Pool, Food Services Maintenance, General Maintenance, Fire Alarm and Physical Security and Access and Locksmith Services.
