Pay Range

$120,510 - - $178,464 Annually

$120,510 - $147,564 Annually for the 338.1 level

$145,740 - $178,464 Annually for the 339.2 level

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

In this role you will

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate complex product movement activities with the assessment Weapon System Engineer (WSE) Assessment Lead and ensure availability of test hardware in support of the baseline schedule, overseeing hardware status and movement, managing travelers, tracking parts and equipment location, and providing original solutions to problems, while exercising independent judgment, discretion, and significant technical and administrative authority.
  • Provide advanced technical oversight and coordination support utilizing product lifecycle management (PLM) systems; breakdown of drawing packages, creation/maintenance of Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs), and issuance of Work Orders.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, requestors, LLNL Procurement, production control, warehouse, LLNL Receiving, and onsite mechanical/electrical fabrication shops to meet project cost and schedule demands, and to ensure that required hardware are readily available when needed for Stockpile Systems programs.
  • Participate in design reviews from the assembly and integration perspective, including contributing, developing, and implementing practices and procedures that lead to efficiencies.
  • Communicate changes in hardware quantity, fidelity, need dates, and delivery dates to relevant stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Develop and maintain professional and working relationships with component Product Realization Teams (PRTs), WSE System Integration and Test Leads, and other stakeholders, providing timely, cost effective support to ensure programmatic milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Participate in mentoring opportunities by coaching early career staff and learning from experienced team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including periodic travel for field support and planning efforts.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 339.2 level

  • Provide highly advanced technical and/or technical management support to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel through specialized and highly advanced technical knowledge, skills, and understanding of relevant requirements, standards, and practicesrelating to acquisition of parts/materials/equipment.
  • Apply extensive experience to make frequent significant decisions using a high degree of independent discretion and judgement to balance hardware needs and hardware receive dates, defining approaches, resolving issues by influencing, negotiating, and/or developing creative solutions, modifying guidelines and techniques, refining technical systems, choosing appropriate work methods, and setting priorities.
  • Contribute to WSE development work package cost and budget forecasts, providing technical input, preparing and presenting formalized reports, and collaborating and providing estimates on budget, schedule, resources, and work planning.

Qualifications
  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in electronics, mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, computer engineering or electro-optic technology or related technical or engineering field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced skills and understanding of engineering design, fabrication, and assembly, including advanced level knowledge of engineering drawings, pedigree, quantity determinations, and assembly processes, as well as demonstrated experience effectively exercising significant technical and general administrative authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, with minimal guidance, in a fast-paced work environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
  • Significant experience working independently in managing, designing, and maintaining tracking tools, as well as demonstrated ability to work under general supervision or direction using independent discretion and judgment to effectively make frequent decisions.
  • Ability to mentor others in specific on-the-job training.
  • Advanced written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with demonstrated understanding of and ability to provide feedback specific to technical qualifications.

Additional qualifications at the 339.2 level

  • Ability to successfully work under minimal direction and extensive experience frequently exercising high level decision making and authority and using a high degree of independent discretion and judgment to define approaches, resolve issues, and create and implement original and innovative solutions to highly complex problems and tasks.
  • Extensive experience and highly advanced skills, knowledge, and abilities in procurement, handling, and coordination of materials and equipment, as well as budgeting, scheduling, and work planning.
  • Highly advanced written and verbal communication, technical presentation, facilitation, collaboration, and negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to effectively prepare, present, and explain regular formalized reporting and technical information, and to recommend, advise, and influence management and outside collaborators.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Knowledge of, or experience with, weapon systems, engineering hardware design, fabrication, testing, and fielding.
  • Knowledge and understanding of conventional manufacturing and fabrication techniques, general electronics instrumentation, hardware and data acquisition systems, and mechanical equipment and hardware.

Security Clearance
