The Electrical Engineering Technician group at Ultra supports the hardware development lifecycle and production of state-of-the-art sonobuoy products for the U.S. Navy and other navies around the world. This includes requirements analysis, design, implementation, developmental testing, support of final customer verification and validation, and production.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers in building, assembling, wiring, and testing electronic systems, modules, and prototypes for maritime defense applications.

  • Perform electrical testing, data collection, instrumentation setup, and troubleshooting of circuits and components.

  • Conduct verification, validation, and functional checks according to test plans and engineering procedures.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and engineering drawings.

  • Document results, test setups, and system configurations using Ultra's engineering and quality systems.

  • Maintain equipment, organize lab workspaces, and enforce safety and configuration control practices.

  • Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to support project goals.

  • Participate in occasional travel (up to 15%) for field testing, training, and customer support.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) or a related technical degree.

  • Ability to interpret schematics, diagrams, and engineering documentation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • U.S. Citizenship required and must be able to obtain a DoD clearance.

  • 1+ years proficiency in the use of digital test meters, oscilloscopes, RF Instrumentation, analog/digital test equipment, product firmware/software installation, cable construction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or defense electronics.

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD electronics, EMI/EMC considerations, or ruggedized systems.

  • Knowledge of cable harnessing, PCB rework, or prototype fabrication.

  • Experience with test instrumentation automation or data acquisition systems.

  • 1+ years proficiency in troubleshooting electronics and electro-mechanical systems down to the component level.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Normal finger dexterity, and normal color vision.

  • Candidate must be capable of occasional lifting of 40 pounds, waist high, with no assistance.

Typically, a High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 3+ years of related experience.
Associate Degree (or equivalent) preferred .
