Position Highlights The Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is accepting applications for an assistant research professor with expertise in sports medicine and concussion, translational research, health psychology, and pediatric populations. This position will participate in research projects in conjunction research assistants, sports scientists and clinical faculty at the Banner Sports Medicine Scottsdale, Banner University Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Institute, and Banner Concussion Center.

The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Orthopaedics, actively participate in teaching, research and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant professor.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute
    translational concussion and sports medicine research studies and quality
    improvement projects in collaboration with Banner University Medical Group
    physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs) and staff (e.g., Athletic
    Trainers), from start-up to data collection, analysis and close-out.
  • Contribute to the programmatic
    growth of a nationally recognized academic research program in orthopedics
    and sports medicine, in collaboration with Banner - University Medical
    Group orthopaedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians.
  • Develop and maintain
    study-related regulatory documentation, including study protocols,
    informed consent forms, case report forms, data safety and monitoring
    plans, statistical analysis plans and IRB submissions and renewals.
  • Oversee all concussion and
    non-operative sports medicine data collection, including providing
    research mentorship and supervision for COM-P students, residents and
    fellows.
  • Develop and maintain data
    quality and control system infrastructure for various projects.
  • Manage and organize project
    timelines and deliverables on time and within budget. Provide regular
    updates to leadership and study sponsors as appropriate.
  • Perform all functions according
    to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation
    requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
  • Provide all customers of Banner
    Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively
    with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Have strong interpersonal
    communication and human relation skills.
  • Demonstrate research experience
    inclusive of the ability to obtain grant funding for research programs and
    studies.
  • Exhibit strong academic and
    grant writing skills and expertise.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft
    Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Planner).
  • Be proficient in data
    collection (e.g., REDCap) and statistical analysis (e.g., SPSS).
  • Have a working knowledge of
    applicable clinical research regulatory requirements, e.g., Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold a PhD in health psychology
    or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrate a track record of publishing
    research findings.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a minimum of two years' experience.
  • Demonstrate experience mentoring students in research projects.
  • Demonstrate experience supervising faculty and staff.
