Job Summary
#CA-PS Reporting to the Executive Assistant Dean of Administration, the Facilities Project Manager (FPM) serves as the School of Veterinary Medicine's primary representative and liaison for all major capital projects-particularly those associated with the Veterinary Medical Complex (VMC). Acting as the School's project lead and advocate, this position ensures that the planning, design, and construction of new facilities and major renovations align with the School's strategic vision, operational needs, and academic mission.
The FPM partners closely with Design and Construction Management (DCM)-the campus unit responsible for planning and executing capital projects-to coordinate all phases of project delivery. This includes defining programmatic requirements, facilitating stakeholder engagement, aligning project goals with budget and schedule constraints, and ensuring seamless communication among internal and external partners.
This position requires a strategic, technically adept, and relationship-driven professional who can navigate complex institutional processes, synthesize diverse stakeholder input, and drive projects to successful completion. - Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Bachelor's degree in project management, construction management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of work experience and education in a similar field.
- Experience coordinating construction projects, ensuring health and safety compliance, and adhering to code regulations.
- Experience working positively with diverse constituents to identify and document functional and technical requirements that meet organizational goals.
- Experience in a formal client-side representative role in construction or renovation projects, assuming leadership roles in teams, and effectively handling challenging dialogues.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of organization and proactiveness.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding conceptual diagrams, designs, and layouts, along with experience using project management tools and software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, Visio, or Excel for Gantt charting and diagramming.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email clients, and web browsers to perform job functions effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification, or documented similar experience and education.
- Expert or certified in project management tools and software such as Gantt charting and diagramming using Microsoft Project, Primavera, and Visio or Excel chart tools.
- Five or more years of experience as a project management professional in the building design, renovation, construction, or facilities industry.
- Experience working with campus units in a UC setting to deliver large and/or complex construction projects.
- Experience performing process analysis and optimization using current best practice workflow analysis tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following regulations and standards: California Fire Code, California Mechanical Code, California or Universal Building Code, California or National Electrical Code, CalOSHA General Industrial Safety Orders, ASHRAE Handbook.
- Knowledge of UC policies, departmental operating procedures, and safe laboratory and facility operations practices in a veterinary clinical/research environment. Familiarity with California Public Contract Code and the Stull Act.
- Knowledge and understanding of one or more project management methodologies such as Agile Methodology, Waterfall methodology, Change Management, Risk Management, Quality Management, PRINCE2, Six Sigma/Lean Six Sigma.
- Knowledge of safe veterinary clinical, research laboratory, and facility operations practices in a veterinary clinical, research, and teaching environment.

Department Overview The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is a large academic unit on the UC Davis campus. The SVM is shaping the field of veterinary medicine, developing dynamic veterinary treatments and making key discoveries related to animal, human and environmental health. Experts in dozens of scientific disciplines train future veterinarians and mentor leaders in veterinary practice, higher education, public health/food safety, research, environmental protection, and biotechnology. The school serves the people of California and beyond by providing educational, research, clinical service, and public service programs of the highest quality to advance the health and care of animals, the health of the environment, and public health, and to contribute to the economy. The SVM has two professional programs (the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and the Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine) and four Graduate Groups. The School comprises six academic departments, fifteen research institutes/centers/laboratories, a Dean's office and our Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. The annual SVM budget is $320 million including approximately $60 million in extramural research expenditures and $90 million in clinical expenditures. The School manages more than 900,000 square feet of teaching, research, and clinical space across its six locations in Davis, Turlock, Tulare, Templeton, San Bernardino, and San Diego.
