Summary:
The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.Facilities Engineering is responsible for maintaining all of MaineHealth's buildings and grounds. Our department is made up of 25 staff that include plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, steam engineers, painters, carpenters, and general maintenance mechanics.

An ideal intern would spend the majority of their time shadowing the applicable staff in his area of focus (Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.). They would also be given time to shadow outside their area of focus to get a full picture of the types of jobs that are necessary to keep a hospital running. They would be given training on healthcare specific requirements such as infection prevention, life safety, and emergency power systems.

Preference will be given to trade school students specializing in plumbing, electrical, HVAC or other related areas.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Student who is currently enrolled in a two-year Associate's Degree program, Bachelor's Degree program, or graduate-level program preferred.
