Summary:
The MaineHealth Food Pantry Portland (MHFPP) provides healthy and nourishing food to community members who are experiencing food insecurity. The pantry is set up like a small grocery store where visitors can shop for high-quality, free food. The pantry prioritizes fresh, local and culturally important foods as much as possible. The pantry team of staff and volunteers work together each week to share 18,000 pounds of food with over 800 households.

Making sure that everyone has access to nourishing food is an important part of the MaineHealth mission: working together so our communities are the healthiest in America. The food pantry is made possible through partnerships with community-based organizations such as Good Shepherd Food Bank and Wayside Food Programs.

The MaineHealth Food Pantry Portland (MHFPP) seeks support with preparing the pantry for open days, being an active part of open day distributions, and helping to move special projects forward. We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and providing compassionate customer service. Strong applicants will be self-starters, clear communicators, problem solvers and collaborators with a passion for increasing access to healthy, culturally important food for all.

Project-based work is subject to applicant's interests and goals. Some examples of past projects are creating and conducting a patron satisfaction survey, supporting data organization and assessment, or working on operational improvements such as multi-lingual handout resource materials and recipes.

Preference will be given to undergraduate students pursuing public health, public policy, food systems, liberal arts, or other related majors.
