Mission
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Plant Operator to safely operate, monitor, and maintain our asphalt production facility. This position requires strong technical knowledge, a commitment to safety, the ability to work under pressure, and the leadership skills to effectively supervise staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of managing multiple priorities while ensuring consistent, high-quality asphalt production.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate and maintain the asphalt plant and related construction equipment.
- Determine proper quantities of materials needed to produce asphalt mixes.
- Adjust plant controls to regulate material flow, system speed, and production temperatures.
- Perform daily walk-around and site inspections to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
- Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure equipment remains in proper working condition.
- Communicate with quality control personnel and adjust material blends as needed.
- Monitor material inventories and maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Track production output and adjust production levels as required.
- Supervise plant employees and assist with training as needed.
- Perform welding and cutting tasks using an arc welder and cutting torch.
- Ensure safe and efficient traffic flow within the plant site.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues; collaborate with coworkers and supervisors on solutions.
- Complete all required plant reports and documentation accurately and enter data into the computer system.
- Maintain cleanliness of the control house and plant yard daily.
- Maintain strong, positive relationships with customers.
- Assist with additional job duties when requested to support operational needs.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Asphalt Plant Operator.
- Experience with Astec, Gencor, and Systems controls preferred.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively during high-stress situations.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail with proficiency in basic math, including percentages needed to calculate material quantities.
- Demonstrated safety awareness and willingness to follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Reliable transportation; ability to work periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
- Must wear required PPE at all times (safety vest, safety glasses, long pants, and above-the-ankle/safety-toed shoes).
- Professional, positive, and cooperative attitude with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and the general public.
- Valid Driver's License preferred.
- Must provide proper documentation confirming legal authorization to work in the United States.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift, pull, and push at least 50 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, twist, and climb on heavy equipment multiple times daily.
- Ability to walk on sloped ground, slippery surfaces, uneven terrain, and work in confined areas.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to see clearly, with or without corrective lenses.
- Ability to work in extreme and unfavorable conditions, including high heat, humidity, wind, dust, sand, and other inclement weather.
- Ability to work near extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease, oil, loud noise, and moving equipment.
- Ability to work at heights up to 100 feet.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
