We are actively seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to a Department of Education program responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and processing claims under an agency-managed program. This role supports attorneys and program leadership by conducting research, preparing documentation, organizing case files, and ensuring compliance with federal policies and program procedures. This is a full-time remote position that may require personnel to be onsite in Washington D.C. with a 24 hour notice. A Public Trust clearance will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the review, analysis, and processing of claims submitted under Department of Education program requirements.
- Collect, organize, and maintain case files and supporting documentation for attorney review.
- Conduct legal and policy research related to federal education laws, administrative regulations, and program guidance.
- Draft summaries, memos, correspondence, and supporting materials for adjudication and program decision-making.
- Ensure all case materials adhere to federal standards for accuracy, completeness, and documentation.
- Support the preparation of legal determinations and case findings under attorney supervision.
- Track and monitor case progress, deadlines, and required follow-ups.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders to request additional information or clarify claim-related issues.
- Maintain program databases, logs, and document repositories in accordance with federal recordkeeping requirements.
- Assist in developing and updating program workflows, training materials, and quality-assurance documentation.
- Participate in team meetings, briefings, and required training sessions.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree required; Paralegal Certification preferred.
- 1-3 years of paralegal, legal assistant, or administrative support experience (government or regulatory experience a plus).
- Familiarity with federal regulations, administrative law, or claims-based programs preferred.
- Strong research, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and document management platforms.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required background investigation or suitability clearance.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience supporting federal programs or working with government agencies.
- Knowledge of Department of Education policies, student aid regulations, or other education-related legal frameworks.
- Prior experience in claims processing, adjudication support, or regulatory review environments.
