HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant II to perform data collection by conducting research interviews. Recruits and screens subjects for research studies. Collects baseline and follow up data from subjects.

This position will predominantly be in support of a new study involving the diagnosis of PTSD, comparing the performance of the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5) with an artificial intelligence (AI) avatar, both for the initial diagnosis and for post- intervention assessment. This work will be conducted within the Division of Military Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine, under the direction of Dr. Michael J. Roy, MD, MPH. In addition to the primary study as described, this position will also support recruitment, enrollment and coordination of participants in current active clinical trials of PTSD therapy.

  • Active recruitment and screening of subjects for research studies, on site at USU, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and other military and civilian sites in the National Capital Area, to include staffing tables in public areas, providing fliers at clinic common areas and front desks, and speaking with physicians, nurses and other medical providers, as well as at local/regional scientific meetings.
  • Collect baseline and follow up data from subjects. Checks for validity and accuracy of data ensuring compliance with quality assurance requirements and clinical relevance.
  • Establish and maintain database files and progress reports for studies, projects and programs. May perform data analysis and interpretation.
  • Perform scientific literature searches, identification and retrieval.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in developing and submitting grants, papers and abstracts, manuscripts and presenting studies, developing protocol manuals and data collection instruments; participates in field visits; responds to requests and questions from individuals, institutions, government agencies and funding agencies and participates in the design of research studies.
  • Assists with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations including editing and formatting documents. Distributes manuscripts and reports to all scientific collaborators as required.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Social Science (i.e., Sociology, Psychology) or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with research participants, to include recruitment, screening, questionnaire administration, informed consent, scheduling and assessment of
    eligibility, symptom severity, and response to interventions.
  • Trained in the conduct of the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5, with at least one year of experience in its administration
  • Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
  • Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
  • Skill in statistical interpretation and data analysis using statistical software and/or spreadsheets and database software applications.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain at T1 Public Trust Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $20.99 - $24.03. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
