Position Description Security Training and Fleet Logistics Manager, 8422SE Department of Public Safety - University Security Twin Cities Campus
Description of Position The Security Training and Fleet Logistics Manager serves as University Security's primary authority for employee training, professional development, and fleet readiness. This position oversees the design, delivery, and evaluation of training programs for all uniformed personnel while managing University Security's operational vehicle fleet to ensure compliance, accountability, and mission readiness. The position reports to the Assistant Director of University Security within the University of Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Responsibilities / Essential Functions
33% Develop and Maintain Training Programs * Collaborate with USEC leadership to identify knowledge, skill, and compliance requirements for uniformed personnel in accordance with State of Minnesota Protective Agent standards and DPS operational goals. * Design, implement, and update training curricula that promote proficiency, safety, and consistency across all operational divisions. * Maintain accurate and auditable training records, certifications, and rosters to ensure accountability and compliance with University and state mandates.
33% Lead and Conduct Employee Training * Oversee the training operations calendar including scheduling, coordination of rosters, and logistics for 40+ full-time and 60+ part-time employees. * Conduct or coordinate training sessions such as unit orientation, field training, instructor development, and specialized certification programs. * Manage training equipment, supplies, and related budget allocations to ensure effective use of University resources.
33% Fleet Management Operations * Administer University Security's vehicle program including scheduling, maintenance, inspections, and lifecycle management to ensure safety and operational readiness. * Maintain accurate vehicle records including mileage, fuel usage, repairs, and preventive maintenance documentation. * Coordinate with DPS administration, Facilities Management, and Fleet Services for procurement, replacement planning, and compliance with University fleet policies and insurance requirements. This job may be designated as essential. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple operational priorities. * Knowledge of training and development principles, fleet operations, and regulatory compliance. * Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data management systems. * Ability to work independently, manage conflict constructively, and support a diverse workforce.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications * BA/BS plus at least two years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience equal to six years in law enforcement, security, fleet management, or training. * Ability to obtain instructor certifications for assigned curricula. * Must maintain eligibility for access to law enforcement-sensitive information, including CJIS Data Access Terminals. * Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. * Availability to work evenings or weekends for training or fleet emergencies as required. Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position. Preferred Qualifications * Experience managing training or fleet operations in a public safety or higher education environment. * Background in employee development, program management, or operational logistics. * Familiarity with University of Minnesota policies, ISO budgeting, and fleet compliance systems.
Pay and Benefits
